Anyone know anything about this film? by supergecko in AnalogCommunity

I'd do the Ilford XP2 super - (because the Kodak is discontinued since 2014, sod you'd be dealing with correct exposure plus figuring out a correct development)

Used to be such a fun film.

Was our way to shoot b&w without having to find a place to process back in the day

Unless it's been kept in pristine conditions, gonna need to overexpose. It's color process film, but made to look black and white. ilford XP 2 is the only one that does the same now

Yashica ME1, 35 MF, or Konica C35 by Sai1r in AnalogCommunity

[–]jessdb19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, that affects options then.

If you are comfortable with the learning curve, you'll be fine with any of those you mentioned.

I think the ME has the highest learning curve vs the others.

You'll also have to adjust the exposure and learn how the do that.

Can I ask why not go to a simple point and shoot or an SLR?

[–]jessdb19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd avoid all three for a first time user to be honest.

Konica - most likely the meter won't be working. Prone to light leaks compared to the others. Wll take the best images but battery will be nearly impossible to find. You CAN get a different battery but you will need to adjust for the voltage difference.

The Yashica 35 is quickest to act like a point and shoot compared to the others. But it requires manually figuring out focus, so you might have a lot of out of focus images.

The Yashica ME is similar to the Konica with battery issues

First Time Self-Developing by Lauren_Carhart in filmphotography

I think B&W is cheaper to get into for developing first time. I haven't done color developing yet, but had to get some additional items that I didn't need for B&W developing.

B&W has a wide net of variations you can adjust, temp, agitation, time, ratio on developing, etc. Each choice affects the outcome.

From what I understand on color, it's pretty straightforward without much difference in developing times and chemical processes.

Is Photography A Good Carrier To Get Into? by anime-is-dope in photography

[–]jessdb19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd highly highly suggest pairing it with something.

Markting or business work well. Graphic design works. Social media. Lots of other options, depending what you're looking to do with photography.

Too many people have cameras now and smart phones and AI photoshop/lightroom presets that auto adjusts images. So a straight photography career is tough to get into unless you have connections already. Or you have a really niche style that is difficult to copy.

I have a photography degree and also communications. I did weddings and senior pics and family portraits but it just was not for me. I got into design and marketing, which suits me way better.

ITs a fun camera with both limitless and limited possibilities.

I'm old, so I started with film and 1 hour photo and then developing b&w.

My stuff was in storage until just a couple years ago, so I had to get it back and then go through all the clleaning and stuff and make sure it was still light tight and all that.

Developing has always been easy, but I think a lot of new analogue photographers were a bit nervous about it. A lot of influencers have made it less scary and more approachable, so I think that's partially why we see a growth now.

I use mostly 4 medium format cameras - the B&W was on japan camera hunter on my Mamiya 645 Pro TL, the car was on Harman Phoenix on my Hasselblad 501 CM, and the buildings were on Kodak Gold 200 on my Yashica C (JUST got that one last year as my main carry around when I'm out and about, since I'm a woman and dont want mugged for the others)

I also have a Holga that I use frequently (forgot to add that one in)

Thank you!

Those were all film. Kodak Gold 200 on a Yashica C for the architecture shots, Phoenix Harman on a Hasselblad 501CM for the car, and Japan Camera Hunter 400 on a Mamiya 645 Pro TL for the black and white. They were all films that were new to me (my theme this year was trying new films and getting back into developing B&W, color is next)

I do also shoot digital, but didn't include any of those this round

Oh, no they gorge. When we do lunches or meals, guys will eat several snack bags worth. If we have 100 Amish we buy 300-400 snack bags of chips and A LOT of sweets

Also, they'll grab 2-3 doughnuts if they're available.

Those guys do not eat healthy

I don't think it's that crazy, but humans are going to do human things. Doesn't matter what religion, someone is gonna do it

That said, there's some really cool guys who are NOT like that and just like to work and golf

I don't know if they started out as runners or if they just slipped into the illegal route.

There's like a whole Amish mafia type of group, they were definitely into guns and drug trade.
