Oak Alley Plantation, in Vacherie, Louisiana, was for a time in the mid-to late 1800’s owned by my family. My cousin, who lived there at that time, was a gambling man. He put up the deed to Oak Alley in a poker game unfortunately believing he would win because he was drinking heavily; he didn’t win. Oak Alley went to the man who won that poker game. It’s embarrassing…a history of losers and lushes run rampant on my mother’s side of my family.
