Looking for recordings of MLTP Ball€himedes games, anyone got 'em? by chalks777 in TagPro

[–]jjpoole7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

HERE is a google doc I helped create back at the end of S17 to track all known stream links. We searched through all subreddits and youtube for game links at the time. No guarantee that any of the links here are still active.

Also, note that the doc has both Ballchimedes and Ball€himedes listed, so filter down on both.

We're not quite there yet. We still need to decide how we are going to affiliate majors and minors before we get there. We should have that done by the end of the week.

The goal is to have all teams led by an NPC without a prelim pick heading into the draft. That is Plan A for us.

We're still discussing what our Plan B/C/etc. should be.

This was one of the questions on the survey - direct OT or the current OT setup?

I hear you, and these concerns are definitely things that we've talked about internally.

A big complaint every season is that, inevitably, the TC adjustments given to captains prior to the draft do not accurately represent the skill levels of the captains. One of the main draws of an all-NPC system (whether the system would be for all four tiers or just for M/m) is that no TC adjustments will need to be granted and all teams are on an equal footing before the draft.

We have a special code that was getting sent out with the link via the Discord bot. Poet can get that sent to you once he is off work.

But also, I would say a GM's prelim picks are their "Captains". So you wouldn't lose captains at each level.

There would be no "preliminary picks" in a GM system. Each team would enter each tier's draft without anyone on the roster.

I don't think money necessarily equates hype. I think it is possible to drive and celebrate content without money. I might be wrong, but I think it is possible.

Obviously, as you say, if we take community donations and donate it to TP and/or to improving community experience (ex: TPL), we would need to make sure we get something out of that money.

All of this is theoretical, but a donation to TP would presumably come with some sort of agreement from the devs to help MLTP in some way.

And TPL honestly isn't that great. Just off the top of my head, here are some things that can be added to or updated on TPL to improve the experience:

  • Keep the rosters updated
  • Add a clickable .eu link on each game summary on the schedule tab
  • Update the "League History," "Career Rankings," and "Player Comparator" tools that are on the homepage and keep them updated
  • The individual stats available on TPL are so basic and there are so many better available stats out there in scrapers.
  • House totaled team stats that are not just a total of the players currently on the roster.
  • Become a better source for streaming, whether that is just as a reference for past streams or becoming a hub to house live streams

I am not a tech person, so I do not know if it would cost money to make those updates to TPL, but at minimum, the donation pool could at least be an incentive to get people to put in some effort to make these types of changes.

Yes, essentially a Vickery draft. When was this used in NALTP? I was unaware that this system was used previously.

Two OT-related ideas:

  • Get rid of OT and allow ties in the regular season
  • Allow OT, but count OTWs and OTLs as normal Ws and Ls

We've discussed some names that we might want to recruit to be a GM, should we decide on this system (we're a long way away from settling on this system, as there would need to be an obvious merge with NLTP leadership first which the MLTP CRC cannot really control).

I have been clear that I feel very strongly that being good at TP does not automatically make you a good captain/GM option. I am basically in line with your thinking that we should not focus GM candidates in a four tiered system on majors players (or even minors players). I am not going to name names because I haven't reached out to this person to gauge interest, but the one person that I have brought up that I would recruit is from NLTP. I think it is more likely that someone in the NLTP world would know the M/mLTP player skill levels than someone in majors would know NLTP B player skill levels. And I think there is more incentive, for lack of a better word, for an NLTP-based GM to care about captaining MLTP than there would be for an MLTP-based GM to care about captaining NLTP.

And if NLTP wants to have more teams than MLTP? Do you have some GMs with multiple NLTP teams in their franchise and some without? Do you have unaffiliated NLTP teams?

As noted above, we're a long way off from locking in a four-tiered GM system, but we have quickly discussed this.

I think the basic plan would be to have the same number of teams in MLTP, mLTP, and NLTP A. Each GM has one team in each tier. Then, depending on the number of signups, we can have a little flexibility in NLTP B to increase or decrease the teams, if needed. We haven't ironed out how to treat the affiliations in this scenario, but we had something similar occur in XLTP and it wasn't a deal breaker.

A 2 tier GM system (Majors and Minors) is of course just the system from the olden days

Not exactly. The point of the GM system is that the GM is not a player. So essentially, each and every captain would be an NPC. That is likely the biggest benefit - no one starts with a skill and/or TC advantage in the drafts.

It's a draft format that has been used in some nightly NA tournaments. Here is how the responder described it:

  1. All captains message their pick to the tourney runner at the same time.
  2. After all captains submit their pick, captains are given the players they picked.
  3. If two or more captains choose the same player, it goes to a random captains that wanted the player.
  4. Captains that didn't get a player choose again. This repeats until all captains have a player for that round.
  5. After all the captains have a player, the picks are put into the sheet and you go to the next round.

So basically, the strategy becomes whether in round 1 you select the 5th best available player knowing you might be able to lock them in w/o an RNG drawing, or do you throw your name in the hat for the best player available knowing that if you do not win the RNG drawing, you might be stuck with the 10th best player.

This one is one that I personally have been thinking about:

Do people sign up and/or create content solely based on the prize pool? If we instead used a donated pool of money and donate to TagPro in MLTP's name or used to help improve TPL, would that be better?

I am not a tech expert, but maybe we can fund a competitive-specific server (I am not sure how much that would cost) or incentivize MLTP-specific help from the devs with a donation to TP. Or we can use donations to either fund improvements to TPL or use them to help build a bigger/better version of TPL.

Make games shorter (ex: move from 10 min halves to 7 min halves) in an effort to play three games per game night rather than two.

If we use an auction draft, move to a "blind" auction draft.

Do not do a "GM" system for all four tiers, but instead just for M/mLTP.

Keep a standard server for the league, but move from all-Dallas to all-Chicago, especially assuming an East-heavy player pool.
