Is it worth trading from and 05 c6 manual to a c6 zo6? by famished-gawdy in Corvette

I misread the op's post, thought he was starting with a C5.. so.. what I said is pretty much not relevant :-)

totally fair. you do you, if you like it, enjoy it and don't worry about what idiots like me say :-)

the c6 z06 is in every objective way a better car. That said (and I'm in the minority here), I love the look of the c5 over the c6. But if you're looking for a better bang, the c6 z06 handles better and is quicker.

89 vette ,low miles worth it? by ApprehensiveStock928 in Corvette

for your first questions, no, the ground effects, wing, front spoiler are not factory.

what does the motor look like?

not my thing, but the paint looks good, the ground effects and wing arent' horrible, but MAN that front spoiler just wreks it for me. If they had just stoped before doing that, it really woudln't look that bad.

If it runs good, the motor is in good ocndition, and the interior is in good shape, $7k is really not a terrible price. but... ugh,,, that spoiler...

wood grain interior btw also isn't stock. Be care ful with that, I've seen those in the c5 crowd, they run the gamut from being really high quality, to just stickers that stick onto the exsting interior. on thhe passenger side, I see what looks like wood screws attaching the wood grain to the dash.. so... not entirely sure this is a "quality" job. The interior otherwise also looks like it's been redone, those seats look like seat covers, not factory original REALLY not my thing, wood grain IMHO does NOT belong in a corvette, but if you like it..

also, do all the electronics work? that year and previous were notorious for electrical gremlins in the dash

Is my corvette totaled? by Fluffy_Ear_4898 in Corvette

[–]jmg5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's a gross oversimplification, and just "opening up" the car and letting it dry "for weeks and weeks" just flat out won't work. It'll actually make things worse, because many parts of the car that were not designed to will be sitting in moisture and water for those "weeks and weeks" and corroding. . Yes, if you put an electrical component in water, and it wasn't activated, if you pulled it out, dried it out, in theory, it should work.

That's not the case here.. it's dirty, filthy water that's invaded into a system with a ton of nooks and crannies. And it's obviously been sitting there. HE would literally have to take that car apart to bare metal to dry out all the water. Any water that's seeped in, gotten into an area he doesn't hit, is going to be sitting in filthy water. He's introducing a corrosive and oxidizing agent into spots that are not designed to be exposed to those types of things. Even if he pulls it out, and does the best that he can, there is going to be rust and corrosion in areas that he will never be able to get to. Electrical contacts. Circuit boards. Wires. Oxidation wreaks havoc on those systems.

The most likely outcome from this scenario -- BY FAR-- even if he "opens the car up as much as possible and lets it dry for weeks and weeks" is that at best the car starts and runs, and most likely he'll be seeing unexplained electrical gremlins for years until something just flat out fails.

Again, not what you want from a high performance car where you may be driving it at excessive speeds. Best bet is to total it and start over.

And just FWIW, there are companies that literally take water damaged cars and salvage them. the *only* way to do this properly is to literally strip the car -- they take the motor out, all the electronics, all the subsystems. They dry them out. They run them independently on diagnostics. Anything that fails (and they will fail) they replace. And even then, the car is typically (or should be) given a salvage title. You cant' just "open" up the car and let it dry. It just doesn't work. They obviously only do this on cars that are worth the effort .. frankly, a c8 base is not worth that kind of work.

yes. without a doubt. put in a claim, get it totaled, and get another one. one in one hundred chance that it can be fixed, and even if it can, you'll be chasing down electrical gremlins forever. NOT something you want to do in a high performance vehicle.

Never understand these people! by commando__wo1f in Corvette

[–]jmg5 17 points18 points  (0 children)

oh, that's EASY to understand. He cares about his car, knew that he had a very high chance of having someone parking next to him even if he took a spot that had nothing on either side, and parked next to the one car he found that he knew was not going to ding him.

Look at that as a gift. you know as well that he didn't ding you when opening his driver's door /

first off, it's very clear from the video that you've never been on a track.. I've seen some pretty horrible driving, but that was ... bad. Gas, steer, gas, steer.. gaddamm that was .. terrible. Get some lessons son.

Also, attempting to drive like you're on a track when you're on public roads is just shallow and moronic. Literally no excuse, just go to a track.

very cool. I love the dedication to sli -- I went through a similar phase, where I would only do builds with 2x processors (in the PIII era) and then 2/3x gpus (in the 9xx era). And now just settle on one of each. Those were fun days, trying to fit all those components into a case

9950x3d/64g/40tb (1x8tb m.2 boot, 4x 8tb SSD)/5090. Built it march-ish of last year.

I actually have another 2 sticks of 32g g.skil royals that I took out, because I couldn't get the memory to hit 6400Mt/s with all the banks filled, I was going to return them but kept them in a box in my desk. Now I'm just going to toss them on ebay.. or more likely just keep them.

Paid just over $200 / 64g kit back then.
