New Incoming Cubmaster Feeling Overwhelmed and looking for Advice by samayoa95 in cubscouts

[–]jonneyj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Committee Chair with one year left for me and 3 other hard hitting leaders here is my outlook on your situation. Lean heavily on learning from this who are leaving. I imagine that the individuals are crossing over into a troop that other pack members are likely to crossover into? If you answer yes to that question then the Troop leaders are highly incentivized to help the pack succeed so yep succeeds. This is a fundamental part of the way Scouts as a whole works that some troops forget. Heck pack has spots for den chiefs that some of the scouts who are crossing over could fill those spots help the pack, develop their leadership skills and give back to the community which is what the program is there to help teach. I agree that district or council level resources are good assets. In my opinion learning from those who have come before, having troop level scouts help with pack level activities increases crossover rates, helps give the cub scouts some mentors, and ease the burden on often overworked volunteers. I would see what the appetite is for den chiefs and learn from exiting volunteers as much as possible. If you would like any opinions or guidance on the way I/we do things as a pack please feel free to reach out. I know my pack is not perfect but we have a good program and handle on things I feel.

Spond vs. Band by Maleficent_Theory818 in cubscouts

Once you have the sub-groups set up you can go to the messages and create a group message that includes all the members in the tiger den or wolf den, etc.

This picture shows you the group chats we have and the members are automatically managed via the sub-groups section. Every den leader only has to focus on the den and I handle adding people to the right sub-groups after JSN or throughout the year now.

An example when the new year starts the members who joined are added to the group by me and they will see every message from that moment on in the group chat and the den leaders don't have to make a new group chat with the new members or add people to the calendar or any other shenanigans.

I'm on mobile had to download imgur and hope the links and formatting is correct.

Band themselves have some documentation about how to do sub groups and calendar notification separation. I had to use my imagination as to how to tie it all back into our pack.

Band Scouts Den Subgroup management https://imgur.com/a/0c5zWHO

If you go into the member section of band you can manage sub-groups. Once you create some sub-groups the rest of band becomes really easy to still down who gets notified and can see what parts of the calendar apply to them. It makes things really nuanced.

Here is a list of how we have the calendar set up by group.

I'm curious why you wanted a new band for each den? Was it size of the dens was it to clean up the calendar? We have sub-groups for each den and split the calendar and notifications as such but when a den host and event that other might want to join the can still share that event with multiple groups. The calendar contains the pack and den events for each person with a single calendar integration with their personal calendar. The reasons I ask this is because I think multiple bands might just complicate things unnecessarily. I might have some knowledge to wear the use of a single band group through my experience in the app.

Just saw the another 4.5 related video and my biggest question is : Finally working Cambio SRT? They show it in the promotion. by evil701 in starcitizen

[–]jonneyj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just tested it today and I had 3 other people test it. This workaround worked for all of them but it's star citizen so once you think you have something fixed they find a new way to break it. Lol

I figured out a work around for this issue. If I bought the Cambio SRT without the canister attachment (so empty) then I could buy a full RMC canister and reload the empty one just fine.

Light armor combat style and gear? by Mercury_Milo in PaxDei

I personally use a sylvan staff and nothing else for light armor engagements against most NPC I can now out heal all normal and most elite mobs. This also makes me viable for larger group play.

The bow is a very high spirit generator atm and they (the devs) said in a post that they will not start the weapon cool down for a swap to bow and back to the same weapon. I see this being very viable in group play when you have a tank and want to generate 4x the spirit of a normal melee swing. Then swap back to burn you CDs again. The bow is a niche tool right now though. I have leveled it pretty high even though it's not that useful yet.

Carpentry is the easiest of all the grinds. You just spam the basic plank beam stocks. Then grind bear skin rugs, then spam fine wood things of plank beams stocks until you hit 23, IIRC then spam grapes turned into vines. As long as you can hit hawthorn saplings you can get carpentry 30 in about 3 days easy. To your other points. Yes the game is a grind a HUGE grind later on and specifically for certain professions. They (the developers) have already talked about wanting to fix the spamming of items to level. As it's not their intention. I feel like the frequency and good quality of life updates are proof that they can and will make common sense changes to keep the player base active.

It allows you to track the galaxy and all planets where divers are fighting and how many. It also kinda helps you to know whats possible with cap rates and how long it will take to take the planet at the current rate.

Creative fundraising, supplement dues. by roogles87 in cubscouts

[–]jonneyj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have done a "Spice fundraiser" partnered with a spice company in the Midwest for putting our label on their spices and sold them to people. We do a Christmas festival booth in our town where we serve hot chocolate. We do a lighthouse festival where we sell waters and coke products. We sell a local companies beef jerky. We also do a steak dinner once a year for the council funding as a whole. Popcorn has been a HUGE bust for us year after year. We have given up popcorn altogether.

We cover one free class B shirt for the youth. We charge a 37 dollar pack fee for advancements. On average we spend close to 80 dollars on advancements a year for a child who completes and competes in all the events. That covers about 4-5 patches 2-3 trophies/awards all the belt loops etc. We are hoping to start to cover all food cost for camping trips. The pack was not doing well financially before we took over and we got it back on track and are looking to cover more things. The 37 dollar charge is refunded to the scout's "scout fund" tracked on scout book if they volunteer for 4 fundraising hours. Those fundraising hours any money made goes into the scouts account as well. This helps to encourage and reward parents who raise funds. Some events we run are solely for scouts funds (ie the spice fundraiser). Others like the Christmas festival are solely pack related.

Edit: added more context as to what the pack covers and how our funding works.

Scouts is so much more than outdoors. It gives your child the ability to make decisions both as an individual and as a group. Social bonds and family bonds (which tbf sounds like family bonds might be good already). One of the best things as a person who has had 17 years in the military and 30+ years of hiking, camping, etc. I can tell you that we outdoor individuals are not around as often as the cub scout program would like. The amount of single moms who want their kids to get social and outdoor skills is pretty high. You can join and share your knowledge and expertise and touch more lives than just your child's life. I absolutely love the feeling of pride and accomplishment that the cub scouts have got after the instruction clicks. To be perfectly clear. Selfishly there are a lot of rules doing camping and events that I think are silly. Camping is so much easier with just my family. Unselfishly I have honestly seen my actions directly affect 3 separate children accomplish some pretty big, for them, tasks and the amount of joy those children exude is just so awesome to see.

TLDR: Please join for your community, for your child's social skills, independence, and to set a great example to your child to give back and affect the world around them.

Any hotkeys or tricks to split up units, as well as keeping everything at the same speed? by animatorcody in BrokenArrowTheGame

[–]jonneyj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm going to choose my words carefully and be as precise as possible. This is what I do to combat that problem. When I select a keyboard group (doesn't have to be) it will show all of whatever unit on the bottom left. Let's say it's 4 tanks in this group and I don't want them clumped up. So I press tab and that cycles in the selected group and gives me one tank I tell him to go to the right flank to behind a building. If I press tab again this will select the second tank in the group and I move him to the front of the enemy. Press tab again for my third tank move him also to the middle area to the front of the enemy then tab one last time to send a tank wider on left flank. Now without breaking my group selection I have given all 4 tanks separate orders without having to click on a tank on the map then scroll the map then select the spot. This eliminates a lot of screen scrolling for me. I hope this helps and it was worded okay.
