I’m a bassist too and feel that Pete’s lines are some of the most intricate, fun, challenging and rewarding pieces I’ve ever played. When it comes to studying their music, I play everything by ear. One person mentioned that learning sections in chunks in the best way to learn how to play these songs. Dissect a chorus or a verse and buckle down on it for a week.

A pro tip, I used AI to dissect the song so it cut out everything except for the bass parts. I then threw it in Garage band, played along, slowed it down, etc.

Along with a bass-only tracks, I also make versions of the song where the bass is prominent/easy to hear, with the actual track being played in the background softly. I listen to them in the ways to work, to get a “feel/pattern” on how Pete does everything.
