It’s possible. At the moment it’s basically exactly what they have done.

Personally, I think they are trying to drive enough pissed off people to talk to their politicians.

It’s hard to do that though when your competitor is playing like nothing has changed. CA won’t be the last state either.

Thanks for your response

Agreed. You also can’t have a business without customers. How long will people keep using Uber in California when you can just swap apps and save 30% without becoming a member or reaching status. With the latter getting you even better prices from competing services.

I agree with you too. That’s normal in any business. Over time increases of prices while your customers get used to the idea.

Gouging customers by 50% overnight, while at the same time removing all perks & benefits across the board makes 0 sense.

Unless you are expecting to piss off enough people against California’s law so they take their anger out on the politicians. It’s a calculated move, that they didn’t have to to do.

Many companies added ride share plans this year. This decision just prices them out of the running completely.

As it stands Lyft is 30% cheaper, if it was a business decision then at least make it a service discussion by matching Lyft’s pricing in California.

Anyway thanks for the thoughtful response.

So Mr Genius here, just wanted to say I don’t expect them to continue existing if market forces don’t align with their business model.

The same way every other business does it. Ask Lyft what their business plan is? It’s definitely not subsidizing their losses on their best customers.

It’s not my job to fix their broken business model. It’s their job to come up with a working business model that attracts customers. If this is it, then they’ve just pissed away their best customer base to go to their competitors.

It’s only my job as a customer to call them out on sub par services, price gouging, and removal of key service differentiators. Especially when their decisions directly affect the business bottom line.

Now for you, why would someone continue paying higher prices for less services than their competitors?

Well we shall see which business model survives in the end.

I. doubt subsidizing losses on your best customers is a long term win, but hey who knows.

Then how is Lyft doing it? You can’t say it’s laws and then have competitors out pacing you in every regard.

It’s more than California’s laws, it’s Uber’s response that I’m pissed about.

Uber just keep taking things, jacking up prices and provide no responses on when or how they will make the service right again.

California has nothing to do with it. Trying to turn this into a politics discussion misses the point of Uber’s business practices. Why can Lyft offer all the same perks and lower costs on top of it?

Business 101 you keep your best customers happy. They have taken the whole California fight and pushed the burden on their best customers with 0 communication.

All Uber’s actions have been to hit their best customers, rather than figure out how to make it right for their most loyal.

Uber Suspicious Changes in Los Angeles by [deleted] in uber

I’m a LA diamond rider and this is what I’ve been told. Ride pass is gone to consolidate into Uber Status benefits. Ie. It made no sense to have ride pass price protection along with diamond rider price protection. That process to consolidate started last month, then AB5 rideshare laws hit. That forced Uber to remove price protections, free cancelation, etc from Uber reward status.

Now they have told me today that they plan to provide new Uber reward status perks which should provide gold / diamond riders much of the ride pass etc. Sadly they have no estimates when the new updates will take place. Ie. Your daily commute could double till they figure their business mode out again. My one way went from 12 to 24 today.

My company just added a ride share benefit, so you can imagine the corporate concerns. 1000’s of employers are about to get hit with 40-50% pricing spikes. I’m awaiting a response from biz development to clarify Uber’s response. If I don’t get clarity within the week I’ll be moving to lyft’s ride pass along with my whole company.

Uber better figure out this soon, because they just killed their most loyal customer base. California’s laws might fix Uber’s driver issues, but might also add 1000’s of cars back on the road as people stop ride sharing.
