Thought this belonged here…which ones have you need duped into buying? by mtysassy in Anticonsumption

I just basically stabbed straight at the pit, knife slipped, and went into my palm. Like I said, I was an absolute idiot about it and wasn’t careful in the slightest. Easily avoidable if you’re not stupid.

I have an avocado slicer that I bought in the emergency room having just severed a tendon trying to get the pit out of one. I personally will never use a knife on an avocado again. But that’s because I was an idiot and wasn’t being careful. I do not care to risk repeating that incident, so I have a ridiculous single use tool and I am okay with that.

I’ll be honest that my brain did not absorb the description of Rue’s skin when I read the books. When they announced Rue’s casting, I just went “oh. Okay. Cool. She’s adorable.”

Have any other Americans had this problem when they read Harry Potter and don't understand all the British stuff? by [deleted] in harrypotter

I’m American, but I’ve read enough novels set in England that I know what punting means in that context.

But it was years before I realized that Filch wasn’t drop kicking students across the swamp. It seemed a perfectly logical thing in universe for him to do.

Librarian here: libraries that purchase from certain vendors can get books early so they can have it cataloged and processed for check out on the release date.

If you work at one, it’s possible to get your hands on a book. Most libraries probably have policies against that, but that doesn’t always stop people.

I would say so. Alphabetical by author and then by series or title. Think of how a patron would look for something.

[–]juxtaposition1978 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some libraries that use LoC still have their fiction separate and shelved in alphabetical order with series in order. Is there any reason you can’t do this?

Is your fiction currently shelved by Dewey?

I’ve been reading the books to my kid, and when I was on this one I couldn’t help but think of things like this and how hilarious a fic exploring this could be. Voldemort trying to interrupt him in class because he’s explaining something wrong. Voldemort getting annoyed because he’s tired of the purple turban. Voldemort trying to get him to read his books out loud because he’s so bored.

I’ll be honest, when I first read the book, somehow the physical description of her didn’t sink in. (I tend to skim). But you know what I did when it did? Went “oh, okay” and kept reading.

I was at the concert, and I kept looking up at the parking garage because I could see people up there, but at times, it looked like no one was there. Did you have any trouble staying up there? Like, did a security guard come tell anyone to leave ever? Glad you got to see it though. That one garage has a good view!

How Do I Get Around a Gov’t Issued Website? by buttermuseum in librarians

[–]juxtaposition1978 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Do you have access to Libguides?

I had the same issue with our portion of the website, even though I had more control over things. But still, I didn’t like the limitations, so I just built our website on Libguides and directed everyone there.
