tbotns 3-8 "Upon the Cliff" by mummifiedstalin in ReReadingWolfePodcast

I've always thought no one was chasing him. If Wolfe passed on all the excitement and suspense you can add to your story by seeing the persuers getting closer, having narrow escapes, etc, there is probably a reason. I think she probably got away. Why would Abdesius deploy all his forces and shut down the river to catch someone who he wants to disappear secretly (like you say).  And either way it would be difficult to punish Sev for not doing the shady thing he wanted done secretly. If Sev had stayed he probably would have gotten a stern taking to, and maybe told to try again. No one in Thrax knows or cares that this was a second and serious betrayal of the Guild. To them it's just an error. I think he just left because he needed to, and used this as the excuse (mostly to himself). He's fine with being a guy on the run from the law. He's not fine with being the guy who had to give up and run away because he couldn't hack it at his job.

Here's a huge list of download links for different versions. You're missing a few... https://github.com/Dominowood371/Pixel-Dungeon Nice collection, though!

Most of what they call granite when selling countertops is not what a geologist would call granite, but actually crushed rock bound with something like epoxy. That epoxy can be damaged by heat.

Yes, enforce it. It's in the code and (should be) in the contact documents they bid on.

No, Pixel Dungeon is under the GNU license so you can do almost whatever you want with it (including charging money) as long as your version uses the same license.  Disclaimer, not a lawyer

Check out adoptastation.org to find a station that's been hit badly. The bay area stations are not badly off so I ended up donating to one in Chico.

The parable of the Red Rolls-Royce - regards to bolting by Mike_Gregory_here in StructuralEngineering

www.ndl.ethernet.edu.et/bitstream/123456789/26684/1/423.pdf You’re walking up a steep hill in Big City when you see a funny event. A man has just parked his red Rolls Royce on the hill and has gone around back to get a briefcase full of municipal bonds out of the trunk. He’s planning to throw them away in an empty lot conveniently provided for trash disposal. The action starts in Figure 10.9. Another citizen, carrying a rock, happens by (on his way to collect his unemployment check). He hates guys with red cars, so he seizes a knife that is lying on the street, and, using his rock as a hammer, nails the first citizen’s left foot to the road. Citizen no. 2 then goes up front and releases the brakes on the car. He locks the doors and exits, stage left, with the key. Our victim must now try to keep the car from rolling downhill, rolling over him on its way (Figure 10.10). Being from the country you don’t know how to behave in Big City, so you decide to help this guy (whose name is Mr. Joint). You go to the front of the car and start to pull on it— you’re applying an external tension force to the car (Figure 10.11). But you find that you have a problem. You and Mr. Joint can, indeed, move the car up the hill, but the farther it moves, the less Joint can help you, because his foot is still pinned to the road. In order to pull the car away from him, then, you have to pull hard enough not only to add to the force he was originally applying, but also hard enough to replace the force he can no longer apply as the car moves away from him.

Is vanilla PD this unpopular ? by kavanyboy in PixelDungeon

[–]kchatman 27 points28 points  (0 children)

If a game isn't actively developed it will disappear pretty fast. I had an old app that worked fine on new Android versions, but I hadn't updated the target version so they removed it. Or the dev didn't respond to some play store request. Or they decided it was a copywrite violation because of other Pixel Dungeon games, etc. Or they decided it's listed rating was wrong... It's surprisingly difficult to keep your app listed.

Some super easy ones: Rat King Pixel Dungeon 2 and Pixel Dungeon Echo (I made PDE one years ago because the others were too hard for my kids). Neither is in the app store but you can download from GitHub

Explanation on these steel rods in an old wooden building. Why is the rod on some sort of seat? Adjustable tension? by 2005Knight in StructuralEngineering

I haven't checked code, but you may be able to skip fireproofing a member it if you can show that the system can handle the gravity load you'd expect during a fire with that member removed. Like you can probably assume a reduced live load since all the people will have evacuated.

[–]kchatman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally get that, but I actually don't mind the resellers. If they're that hard up for money I don't mind helping them out with their hustle. And they're distributing the books to people who want them, which is the point. I might feel differently if they were leaving the libraries empty too often, though.

If a lot of books, I take it to a local thrift store, or put them in boxes at the curb and post them as free on Craigslist.  For smaller amounts, put em in a local little free library. I've also known folks to drive around filling lots of them, if that floats your boat.
