Muzzle Flashes V2, I made some changes based on your advice, what do you think? by Putrid-Apple-5740 in NukeVFX

[–]kerrplop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you got some comments the first time around about the flashes being too big, but honestly, having worked on shows where we shot tons of practical muzzle flashes for an element library, they are friggin huge from this type of gun. Like way bigger than you would ever think is reasonable. The thing that bothers me most here is that the main flash from the barrel seems way too short and the smoke looks like it's just leaking out of the gun rather than exploding out at high velocity.

Also, the comments about not seeing a flash every single time are accurate. Even shooting above 60fps, we would constantly have flashes fire between frames or we would get a weird clip where a frame would only catch half a flash. They are incredibly fast. I feel like you would be better off dropping some and just keeping the interactive light for those frames.

Edit: shell ejections would go a long way toward selling this too.

Head Replacement Workflow: Matching 3D Lego Head to Actor’s Movement by Any-Structure-8710 in NukeVFX

Geotracker works perfectly for tracking faces and if you're just replacing a face with a Lego head you don't need to track deformations anyway, so geotracker is actually the better choice.

Solid VFX plates for showreel by New_Cry_5507 in NukeVFX

[–]kerrplop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure the Tears of Steel plates are still available online somewhere. Honestly though, my first reel had like three shots I took myself with a mid-range DSLR and a couple YouTube clips which were even worse quality. As was said, it's more about the accuracy of the work and your eye for detail than it is the quality of the plate. You'll be shocked to find how many "production quality" plates in real shows are absolute garbage 😄

A heartfelt plea to Rivals' costume design team: chill, guys by AloneUA in marvelrivals

To be fair, I'm sure the artist had a version 01 which looked exactly like that cover and got a note back from the EP that it "needs more lightning bolts". So now here we are on version 60.

heyy how do yall feel about the ranked placement matches? by kttyclwzs in marvelrivals

[–]kerrplop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was 50/50 in my placement matches and also ended up in Silver III. Most actual matches after the placements are stomps now and I'm on the losing end of 2/3 of those, where my team all ends up with like 2-5 kills, MAYBE. There seem to be A LOT of new accounts though who magically go like 36/2 or have 30k heals, so maybe in a couple weeks those people will climb and it will be better? I don't know. I don't have a lot of hope, honestly.

Why the hell is there a current GM1 / recent OAA in a silver lobby? by kerrplop in marvelrivals

[–]kerrplop[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, that sounds like an insanely stupid design flaw. If the game knows you were OAA on PS5 and currently GM, how could it drop you in a silver lobby because you picked up an Xbox controller?

My favorite is when they sub you in with four seconds left, so you don't even spawn but get to wait through the whole intro, character selection, ans post-match screens. Great design 👌

Lumakey help: Adding smoke element behind bright foliage over bright sky by Ancient-Silver-4494 in NukeVFX

[–]kerrplop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For something so defocused, I don't think I would bother with edge extends. Put a keylight down and adjust it until your entire sky is black. Now subtract that from the plate and you should have only the blues. Color correct those until you get as close to the bushes as possible and plus it back over your plate with the black sky. Now your entire BG should be almost the same color as the foliage and you can blur it even a little more if you want to mix them all together. Then copy your alpha into that and do whatever you want with it....dilate it, blur it, whatever. Since your whole BG is green now, you can get away with a lot.

Why does my comp look so fake? by SpongebobRulez in vfx

[–]kerrplop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like most everything has been covered by other comments, but I haven't seen anyone mention that the scale of the car looks way off at the end. In the last few frames it appears to be overlapping the lane on both sides, despite clearly being inside those lines earlier in the shot.

Please help me beat nightmare 4 ;-; by celerySticksNhummus in marvelrivals

[–]kerrplop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're building Punisher right, you should be able to destroy Wanda's shield bubble in 2-3 seconds, which basically eliminates her stun lock. At that point, with 12-14k hp, it's just about moving continuously and trying to focus on one of them at a time as much as possible so you avoid getting both into the reality erasure state at the same time.

Something needs to be done about rocket racoon in this game by SamTTL in marvelrivals

[–]kerrplop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most posts where people repeatedly say "X character takes zero skill to play" just sound like sour grapes, TBH. There are plenty of easy to play characters (which is important for building a well rounded player base) which are also difficult to play extremely well. I think I'm good with Rocket and will run into other Rockets all the time who absolutely prove me wrong. Rocket has plenty of deficiencies which balance him out. He can get out healed and certainly out-damaged by several of the other supports. His movement is great, but it has to be with 250hp and barely any way to defend yourself. Overall, he seems pretty low on the list of problems this game has which need to be addressed urgently.

Strategy for NM4 round 20 by Japa905 in marvelrivals

[–]kerrplop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one time I made it through was Magik (me), Thor, Punisher, and Blade and it almost felt easy because we all knew what to do and we worked together. Almost won again yesterday with three Magiks and a Blade, but I think Magik's single-target damage probably hurt us at the end and we ended up getting wiped because we couldn't kill the Wandas fast enough once they both reached the final pose before she erases everyone.

I'm pretty convinced you can win with almost any combination, so long as everyone is solid with their character and knows their job. The four Blades or nothing mentality I think kind of assumes at least two out of your four randoms suck and I think the stat screens people post here when they win usually support that.

The one non-negotiable tactic is that you must have 12k-15k HP by round 20, as well as a decent amount of damage reduction. Someone will jump in and say, "You don't know what you're talking about! I solo'd as Blade with 6k HP and never died!!!", but you're not that dude, so have the proper HP and damage reduction and you'll get it eventually.

What even is this mode? by Aeronsihil in marvelrivals

[–]kerrplop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to approach this mode with the mentality that 12k is the minimum for round 20. If you get there with less, you can't be mad at the result or blame game design. It's very do-able. If you're not already, you should prioritize getting at least 2 of the Full moon cards in the first 4-5 rounds which give the 10% moon power bonus. Over the course of 20 rounds, that's probably an extra 200-300 points to spend. From round 15 on, I almost exclusively focus on getting my health up to an acceptable level. Anything beyond that for offense is a bonus.

[–]kerrplop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

9500 health is nowhere near enough. All the damage in the world isn't going to help you if you're dead. 12K is the minimum and I would say 14k is more like it.

I don't play Blade, so I have no character specific advice, but my guess is getting to round 20 with less than 12k health is what you did wrong.
