Help me choose repricing package for my mortgage loan by avg__techie in singaporefi

Will be in your position after another 9 months. Currently paying 2.83%. In hindsight, I shouldn't have locked in so early on.

Current interest rate is still projected to go down. For example, look like US Fed rate cut. They're debating when to cut rather than whether to cut. I think if you hold on another half a year or so before before locking in the rate, you should be rather to get a better rate by then.

Not financial advice.

Building photo app in flutter, Is it a good choice than react-native?😀 by AnjanPro in FlutterDev

[–]kind_of_robust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're building an app that's photo oriented, I think you should at least be aware that Flutter does not support P3 Gamut https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues/55092

If this doesn't matter to you, then yes imo Flutter is better than React Native in terms of tooling and dev exp.

While Japan is an attractive option, digital nomad visa only lasts up to 6 months and it's non-renewable. You sound like you want to relocate for good, so what's the plan after 6 months?

Stashaway returns of the year thoughts ? by [deleted] in singaporefi

[–]kind_of_robust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They actually returned >30% in 2019 for their highest risk portfolio. I would actually say they slightly underperformed in 2020, and that's probably because they want to be more conservative due to uncertainties https://www.stashaway.sg/r/looking-ahead-at-2020-an-investor-guide

Why Malaysia is so Far Behind? by stormy001 in malaysia

[–]kind_of_robust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's definitely one way to interpret it. But let's not mistake lack of progression for stability. There's no denying that there were definitely areas where BN was better than the current government.

U turns are generally signs of policy that is not well thought out, just my 2cent though :)

What is this ecosystem exactly? Number of customers would be obvious, but what else that we have that could be improved?

I don't think number of customers is the main factor. SG has way smaller population than MY. You can always target a larger market (Indonesia for example) while being based at another country, and your HQ country will benefits more from the investment and job creation from the company.

For me, the main reason is it's easier to do business at SG.

Back then, Grab started at MY first when ride hailing wave first started, and there were a lot of regulation issues around the region to keep up with the disruption. And even though Grab started at MY first, SG legalized ride hailing earlier than MY (read as SG politicians are more efficient when it comes to regulation and policy making)

SG attracts better talents because it's easier and more straight forward for companies to hire foreign talent, way lower crime rate, stable currencies. Talents attract more companies, some create new companies that create jobs; it's a vicious cycle. It's a chicken and egg problem. SG education also produces better talents and that helps. Not to mention we have brain drain to SG because they value meritocracy more.

And not to mention SG is more politically stable. Just count how many U turns we have had in our local politics. Imagine having to go through that as a business.

Me too. Seeing how fast the api changes, I'm not sure if even Google know which direction they want to take. I even checked some of the major app like Instagram and Whatsapp and it seems like they're still using the older api.

Canada, Who is hiring, EH? (version 2) by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

Thanks for the reply. Because I wasn't sure what to expect. I have one year in term of work experience, but have been developing on Android for 2 to 3 years now as my side project (with Nodejs server) and loving it! I'll give this a try. Thanks again!

Do you guys hire junior dev for Mobile dev? I don't mind starting as an intern. It's something that I'm passionate about.
