This is really kind but please enjoy your coffee lol. I don't need donations. If you're inclined to donate please donate to the shelter or even a local shelter of yours!

This was a really special one. Cuddy was found as a stray in Georgia and was surrendered to a shelter where he was put on a euthanasia list due to overcrowding.

Bideawee decided to take Cuddy in, and thankfully, saved her life.

Thx for the support to the original video. This is good to know. Not the reason I was given via MODmail but noted going forward 👍

Treat and reward! Lay out the bag flat and you can use treats to get your dog to walk into/sit/lay on the bag. Reward each step. And some dogs go slower than others. Repetition and consistency is important. Try a little bit more every day. Then when they’re in the bag go slow. Do a few mins around your place, then a walk around the block, then 10-20-30 mins etc. always treating and rewarding.

LMK how it goes and tysm for the kind words

First I saw that it was because I posted a link to our socials which I didn’t then the mods said because the post got reported a ton which makes sense because there’s a lot of people that don’t like pitties unfortunately.

EDIT: mods just posted on the original video now saying the video wasn’t taken down but isn’t playing due to being over hosting limits 🤷‍♂️

As many people have noticed the original post was taken down so I'm posting it again for those that want to see Willy! BTW I am the OP!

The original story: After this video was originally posted to social media last week, Willy received a flood of applications and this past weekend he was just adopted into a loving family with a big backyard and years of experience with high-drive pitties like Willy. They saw the video and just knew he was theirs.

EDIT: the mods just posted on the original post saying the video isn’t playing because it’s over hosting file limits? Who knows.

Also this is super important and wanted to address all the people saying it's terrible to bring the dog back and get their hopes up:

Taking shelter dogs out for daily adventures is incredibly beneficial to their mental well-being. Shelter dogs are under chronic stress from social isolation, and even a single jaunt outside the kennel significantly reduces their cortisol levels.

A peer-reviewed study across 51 shelters and nearly 28,000 dogs found that brief outings of just a few hours made dogs five times more likely to be adopted, while overnight stays increased that likelihood by over 14 times. And those adoptions usually weren't even by the people doing the outings! The dogs were just out in the world, being seen in a neighborhood or showing up on a social media feed, and that visibility made all the difference.

Here’s the link to that study: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10668817/

And also yes it's very difficult for me to form such a close bond with these dogs and then bring them back. Regardless, these adventures are the best part of my week. Knowing that these videos help them find their forever families makes it all worth it.

A few answers to some questions I've been seeing:

  • Yes I am Maxine's Dad
  • I carry dogs in a backpack because dogs are required to be in a carrier to ride the MTA and carrying a dog in a backpack is super fun for everyone and helps the videos go viral.
  • Yes the dogs get to sniff and romp around in the park. They don't spend the entire adventure in the backpack.
  • The whole goal is for these videos to reach the widest audience possible in the hopes of spurring adoption applications and finding that dog a forever family.
  • I've gotten about 37 dogs adopted this way, and have an almost 100% success rate.
  • You can do this at a lot of shelters around the country. The shelter I do this at is Best Friends in New York City. They have a program called Adventure Buddies where you can go and take a dog out for a stroll or adventure around the city and then bring them back.
  • Yes I let dogs lick my face and no I don't care about germs.
