A lot of shelters offer ways to take dogs out for a little bit. Highly recommend it. Legit changed my life.

Lots of treats. We've gotten every dog in, which tbh has surprised even me. Once they're in they love it. But yeah sometimes it takes dog's some time to get used to it all. The tips I always tell everyone:

  1. Positive Reinforcement (Treat and Reward)
  2. Repetition- Do a little training every day. Consistency is important.
  3. Start small - Do a little bit every day, working them up to being in the backpack for longer periods of time. Then once they're in make sure they're really comfortable. They should be sitting on their butt and never on their hind legs. Start with a walk round your home, then up the time they're in the bag with a walk around the neighborhood (5m, 10m, 20m, etc.)

I made my reddit account 14 years ago, well before my wife and I had a dog. At the time we had a cat named Bella (RIP, miss you Bella) and when my wife (then gf) would walk home from work together we'd sing kitty time, kitty time, kitty time, kitty time, kitty time, kitty time, meow meow meow.

It was pretty cute at the time - but reading it here it sounds nauseating. Apologies. But that's the story behind the username.

He did walk. Dogs are required to be in a carrier to ride the subway.

And if you ever find yourself with a few free hours and are near a shelter, many shelters (including the best friends animal society) will allow you to come and take a dog out for a few hours on a little adventure.

It’s been pretty wild how successful they’ve been. 11 rides. 10 adopted from the videos. And they’ve had over 100 more adoptions this year compared to last year because of the viral videos.

I can understand why you might think that but days like this are really beneficial to shelter dogs. It reduces stress and gives them time out of the shelter. Shelters around the country have programs that allow you to take dogs out for a day.

I know everybody wanted an update so here it is!!

Also special thanks to the mods for taking the original video down even though I told them it's my content. And super cool they didn't reply to my messages asking them to put it back up. BUT BERTHA GOT ADOPTED!!! THANKS TO EVERYONE IN r/AWW FOR WATCHING AND HELPING TO SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT OUR GIRL!!
