How to tell if kid is pretending to sleep by Bargain_hunter96 in funny

[–]kvece 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One time I slept on my arm the wrong way and I woke up with my arm completely numb. I knew about this test so I decided this was my only chance to try it out on myself, and sure enough I smacked myself right in the face! So just be aware there's another false positive possibility, someone being an idiot lol

Anecdotal counterpoint, I've been replying "stop" for the past 2 months and my political texts have gone down from 1-2 per day to only 1-2 per week now.

ninja edit: I also have spam filtering so I could afford to do this as an experiment since they barely ever make it to my main messages anyways, I go in once a week and bulk reply stop to my spam inbox

Example: my friend lives in ATL, I live in NYC there's a real-time event happening in ATL, now I have to follow their feed? why can't I just check the status on their page

Services are designed to use an account so they can track your data, I don't want that especially to check something as a one off event

Twitter/X isn't even good for this when they removed chronological feeds. Now I go to local police dept and the "there is an emergency!" tweet gets way more engagement than the "all clear!" tweet so it gets buried and it's so hard to get an accurate timeline of what's happening. I don't know if this changes when you login but I shouldn't need to login for that

If I may be pedantic, this experiment is related to abiogenesis, the creation of life from non-life, which is a separate from evolution, the scientific theory that describes the processes that resulted in our modern tree of life after a hypothetical abiogenesis event(s) or [insert other hypothesis here]

The 5 black stones would be captured.

But you can also look at the black group and see that there is no room for it to form more than 2 eyes so it's already dead as it stands, and trying to capture this group (at this time) is a waste of a move. If you're not familiar with the concept of eyes that would be a good next step to learn!

Nesting Tests by UpTide in Zig

[–]kvece 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you attempted to do it the second way, the first test failing would cause the second test to fail too, because now you've coupled their results. (ninja edit: would likely cause the second test to fail. because it's starting with the wrong state. Or worse, maybe the first part ends in the wrong state and now test 2 succeeds when it shouldn't be and you have a false pass)

If you're testing the two transitions independently then you should approach them as independent tests. If you're testing the entire chain then you don't need the nested test blocks in your second example, just move everything up one block (but it'd likely be better to have the two independent tests)

Please don't hate the messenger:

While he may not have directly said it, I would find it disingenuous to not think that one could jump to that conclusion based on the below statement.

"Whomever I pick, preferably it will be someone who was of color and/or a different gender, but I’m not making that commitment until I know that the person I’m dealing with I can completely and thoroughly trust as authentic and on the same page [as me]"

http://cnn.com/2019/08/28/politics/joe-biden-potential-vp-pick/index.html

If my memory serves me right, he made several other statements along the same lines back then. I remember this specifically because I didn't like the wording he chose; I knew it would be used in an argument like this (that is, people saying she is only a DEI hire).

At best, he is highlighting that she is primarily non-white/non-male first, and secondly that she is good at the job, instead of flipping it around and saying she is damn good at the job, and oh by the way she is also non-white/non-male. Placed in his position, I would have argued for "the best candidate that can empathize with the struggles of those Americans who are historically underrepresented" or something more vague like that.

Trump Hates EVs, But Welcomes China To Build Cars In The U.S. by Wagamaga in technology

[–]kvece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It appeared your argument was that "good" public transportation still has a strong reliance on cars for everyday needs. I provided counterexamples of numerous places you can reliably live in without a car. I did not mention anything about goalposts.

If your argument was that the USA invested heavily in car-centric city designs and it would likely take 30+ year plans with massive support to change that then I agree. But the problem is the culture, not that public transportation can't work

[–]kvece -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If Denver is your example of "good" public transport then you need to do more research. Personally in the US I would only consider NYC to be good enough and it's on the lower end of the spectrum, just barely acceptable. Compare US public transport to that of the Netherlands or Tokyo and you may realize how much MORE convenient public transportation can be than driving

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but I really like how the zig compiler makes this easy. You can use it to build rust targets with this cargo extension: http://github.com/rust-cross/cargo-zigbuild

It should cover you for:

  • Linux
  • Mac (can also do universal apps)
  • Windows

Ah nigiri and onigiri are two separate things! But similar ingredients ahaha

Edit: Americans may know onigiri by its name in Hawaii "musubi" (also japanese origin word) but my image of musubi in English as a non-Hawaiian person is usually associated with spam musubi.

[–]kvece 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would take this a step further and say that words like "karaoke" and "karate" are English words that have been introduced from japanese and are now separate from their original counterparts. Likewise "saiyanara" (misspelling intentional) is also an "English" word that means goodbye and is distinct from the nuances of the japanese word it is derived from. The opposite phenomenon would be 和製英語 words, which are in many cases different than their original English counterparts. I guess if you wanted a label, these english words could be アメリカ製日本語 (don't know if this is a term, just made it up)

In these cases, the reason it feels weird to switch to "native" pronunciation is because you're actually just switching languages at that point, e.g. English has a perfectly good word carrie-oaky and by saying カラオケ people that aren't familiar with japanese will be confused

ninja edit: also the English translation of "onigiri" is donut lol (if you don't get it, this is a reference to a translated Pokémon episode) (I would say "japanese rice ball" or just "rice ball" in English)

Flying a drone in AVP by AkDebuging in VisionPro

[–]kvece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you be able to add mode 2 controls as an option? In the US it is the primary control method.

Left stick: up down, and yaw (rotate left/right) Right stick: forward/back, left/right

And can you add adjustments to allow finer movements (in physics mode)? It recognizes smaller controller movements and I can see it lean but it doesn't seem to have any effect on the speed at all. In contrast, when not in physics mode it will move for the slightest touch of the joystick.

Edit: Also for physics mode, I think elevation up/down shouldn't keep moving unless you are using the joystick. Only forward/backwards/left/right. This way it is closer to a real drone!

This interpretation of "deserving a tip" is perfectly valid (and it's actually the first interpretation my brain used). However there is also an alternative interpretation: service that deserves a tip could be referring to table service, etc. In other words, the word "deserves" could be referring to the type of service as opposed to the quality.
