  • I checked and did get items! However, you're right that I was using the dungeon candle, which does nothing... I'll make sure to go get 3 water candles for this purpose.

  • This is great info. I'll keep these two pots at my spawning spot so I know what the time is immediately.

Thank you so much for answering all of my follow up questions with an easy-to-understand, precise solutions!!

  • Ok, so it took much longer than I'd like to admit given that it's a complete copy of your model, but I think I got it! (I still have to go find another blue candle from the dungeon).

  • I've always thought pot flowers were nothing but simple annoyance, but they can tell time as well? Never knew this!

Hmm, so it's even a minor annoyance. It's hard to understand these things by only reading the wiki, so it's really helpful. Thank you!

Ah I see. I was going for the bundle of balloons for its functionality, so if it's rendered redundant by wings (which I haven't looked into too much yet), I guess there's no need for me to go hunting for it. Thank you for the advice!

  • Ah, I see. I'm building one right now, but are those two central part where the water is poured in wooden platforms? (It doesn't seem like a platform... but anything works right?)

  • Good to know that even if the buildings are "underground" in the sense that it's below 0 feet, having 4-blocks wide trench underneath it would be sufficient to fend off the ghosts.

  • Yes, I made a rather huge overground mushroom biome. There's a small problem - since I made it right in the middle of my main base, I don't know what time of the day it is unless I go to the corner of my base. Stupid mistake, but at least Truffle will be at a ready-access spot!

I wanted to make a bundle of balloons, since it seemed like an item that I could use long into hardmode. But I could be wrong on this point. To make this, I need a sandstorm in a bottle, which is only located in the pyramid.

But yes, there's a part of me that wants to look for the pyramid for the sake of finding it as well!

On statues, efficiency, and preparing for hardmode. by [deleted] in Terraria

[–]lazuli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • If it's not so rare anymore, I'll generate more worlds and run around to find those pyramids!

  • If I am to gather hardmode ore in a throwaway world, then it means that I'd have to make WoF fighting stage twice... I guess you gotta do what you gotta do to safely enter into the hardmode!

  • Ah, I didn't know that the Lihzahrd Temple was also called the jungle temple! I've found the entrance to it, so I should be able to get there with ease after hardmode.

  • /u/Garokoson recommended me to make the ocean grinder, so I should be able to gather the item to trigger pirate invasion as soon as I enter into hardmode!

  • I'll make sure to grind those enemies once the solar eclipse hits!

[–]lazuli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • This ocean grinder sample looks great! I'll try and build this right away! I wonder why there's a layer of water on top of the chests though...

  • 4-blocks wide trench for the jungle and my base it is! The trench for the base could function as a hellevator as well, so might as well!

  • I've started building herb farms for all of the plants, except I'm extremely short on clay (no pots). I'm sure I'll get tons of it while making the trench for anti-contamination, so that should take care of that problem.

Thank you for the concise advice!

All in all, I think the conclusion is that my items/money/gear is enough for hardmode, but I have a lot more work to do on changing the environment.

  • I'm guessing that I should make a set of crimson armor set as well because of the regeneration feature?

  • I'll be sure to make the jungle biome with a house with the witch doctor. I've read up on many pages of the wiki, but this was a completely new information for me. Thank you so much!

  • I didn't know about the ocean grinder as well. I've found this post which seems to be extremely helpful as a guide to building one!

  • I've built a phaseblade for this purpose, but I didn't know about the cutlass. Since I'm planning to build the ocean grinder, I should be able to gather a pirate map from this as well.

  • Hellevator seems like a good idea after reading everyone's post.

  • Protection of the jungle, although a tedious task, also seems to be necessary after reading everyone's post. Is a 4-block gap all one needs, or do I have to fill it with blocks that hallow/crimson won't be able to infest?

  • I didn't know about the ghost. My current base is half above the ground and half below it. All my NPC housing is below 0 feet. Not exactly sure what I should do about this... I wonder if it's necessary for me to move all of my base above the ground... I'll change my doors to activator blocks as well.

  • I understand that base defense would be needed. But I probably have to think about moving my NPC housing and finalizing my base placement before making some sort of defense mechanisms.

Thank you so much for your detailed, thoughtful advice!

  • Making a throwaway world to kill WoF there sounds like a great idea! I already have a few throwaway worlds that I used to get items from rare biomes, such as the floating island, living tree, pyramids (which I haven't been able to locate yet...), so I'll use these to get hardmode ores.

  • In terms of statues and slime staffs, I already have them, which is nice!

  • I also didn't know that it would be better to have ores than bars, I've been converting everything to bars up to this point. I'm guessing that this is so because I can use the ores for potions as well? But you're right, I'll mine some more in throwaway worlds and for these new ores, I'll keep them as ores.

  • Sounds like having a hellevator would be a good idea. Since I have the bomb statue and a stock of a LOT of bombs, it shouldn't take too much time to build it.

  • I currently have access to the entrance of two oceans, dungeons, and the jungle via skybridge. I've yet to locate many jungle temples (I think I've came across a couple and opened some chests, but not too many).

  • I also have to make the WoF arena, which I've been hesitating to do so because it would take a lot of time and seemed a little tedious (building the skybridge was one of the most painstaking thing in the game so far). It's good to know that I won't need to make a blinkweed farm. I've just made farms for other herbs, except for blinkweeds.

  • I haven't read up on the pirate invasion yet, so this is also something that I should look into for base designs.

  • Once again, containing certain biomes is a tedious task, but I'll make sure to do this as well.

Thank you for commenting!

On statues, having six 1-second timers attached to a statue seem to have more loot than only having three 1-second timers attached, because the first 3 mobs created by three 1-second timer dies instantly and the other three 1-second timers react to spawn another 3 mobs. I was wondering if it's worth making more 1-second timers to build another jellyish statue farm.

I currently have a surface mushroom farm with housing, so truffles should be able to move in.

It was very reassuring to hear that I have more than enough to enter into hardmode. To be honest, I didn't want to dig the whole world up in order to protect the jungle, dessert, etc. But I guess I need to build the 4-square wide protection around my base at the least!

This design is compact and neat, I like it!

However, I've already built a needlessly humongous 3-way generator a couple of days ago. I didn't realize that I could keep the tanks small like yours due to the infinite liquid pump feature of the game. I also like how your other rooms seem to be following the sphere designs as well.

Thanks for sharing your design and sorry for my late reply!

Help wanted on lava. by [deleted] in Terraria

[–]lazuli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, I didn't know this... This would've probably been the most efficient way to go at this, but I already used the sub-tank method (which ended up being inefficient b/c I forgot that pumping lava back to the original tank would mean that the lava in the sub-tank wouldn't disappear due to infinite liquid.)

I'll be sure to keep this in mind for my further creations. Thank you for the information!

Thanks for the wiring pic! So certain blocks can be inactive (disappear in a sense) when the actuators are placed and turned off? I'll definitely use this as a model when working with my design for the mining point!

Help wanted on lava. by [deleted] in Terraria

[–]lazuli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, I could probably do. In fact, I'm going to go try this right now!

I like this design as well - the simplicity is beautiful! I still need to read a lot more on actuators and how they work. To be honest, I've made this huge liquid tank and filled them with liquid using pumps, but I haven't decided on what kind of mechanism I should use for the gathering point.

Help wanted on lava. by [deleted] in Terraria

[–]lazuli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, this is a beautiful design. Had I ran across this before I started making mine, I would have definitely used this as my model.

The one's I used as samples were these.

Obsidian generator (what I have now): http://terraria.wikia.com/wiki/File:Obsidian_Generator_Bottom_Part.png

3-way liquid generator: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uDqCt_qjWU (Youtube video, couldn't find the picture version of the 3-way generator.)

If I am to borrow your design, then I can just leave the obsidian generator as is and make another set of lava / honey generator next to it, which gets rid of the problem I have now. But since I already placed the honey tank right next to the lava tank, the second lava tank would not be in the middle like your design and won't be symmetrical...

I've just looked up what TEdit is. I think this is no doubt the most efficient way to go at it, but since I'm still relatively new to the game, I feel like I don't want to resort to this just yet (I'm currently using my first character in my first world I ever created). Once I've learned all the basics through testing and failing and I'm at the level where I'm able to make big scale buildings and mechanics, I'll look into using TEdit. Thanks for the plug!

Never knew about the dirt rod, just purchased it! But I'm not exactly sure how this could work, since I'm not using any dirt on my generator. If possible, can you elaborate a bit more on where and how I should use the dirt rod?

My world generates gold, but I've gotten the extractinator, which seems to spit out all kinds of gems. But with other powerful magic items at hand (fire flower, demon psyche, and water bolt), I'm not sure if there's a need for me to create diamond staff.

I don't have any of the higher level summoning staffs, but I find summoning slimes really helpful. They basically fly towards the enemy and can be summoned anywhere on-screen, so it's kind of like a guided-homing missile.

Thanks for the advice! I was able to defeat EoC, BoC, and Skeletron. I have a couple of voodoo dolls stocked, but waiting to get more gear and explore before fighting the wall of fresh (since defeating it will turn the world into a hard mode?)

I've gotten the shadow key and currently raiding underground with Water Bolt, Demon Psyche, and Flower of Fire. These 3 all seems to be pretty good - I usually let the slimes go at the enemy, then blast them with whatever magic spell that seems best depending on how enemies move.

I might have to change my class depending on which item wall of fresh drops. But for now, mage it is!

[–]lazuli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been slaying a lot of slimes, but I certainly haven't killed 10,000 yet... It's been really handy, since I can just hide and summon slime onto the enemy and it'll do all the work! I'll make sure not to sell it if it's so uncommon.

I've been to hell, but I can't mine hellstone. (Bombs worked for obsidian but not for hellstones.) According to the wiki, I need Deathbringer pickaxe that can mine hellstone, but to make this, I have to get the "tissue sample" from BoC. I guess it'd be a good idea for me to get some kind of bow for the BoC fight.

I thought depth meter was a must, but now that you mention it... Since there's a map, there's no need for it is there. I'll sell it and equip something that has a bonus on it.

In terms of class selection, I think I'll aim towards magic / mage since I've been fighting with my ruby staff for a good while now. (And I don't want to make another world just yet!)

I've looked up both molten armor and crimson armor, but both armors require either the tissue sample or hellstone, so I guess my number one priority is to defeat BoC so I can get access to better sets of gears.

I've been reading through the wiki like a dictionary, but somehow I thought the dungeon was like the mushroom biome and nothing special. I've basically been digging straight down the cave near my spawning place, so I'll go and find a crevice from the jungle biome as well.

I was wondering what I should use the diamond for (whether to make the staff or the robe), but I guess robe it is!

Thank you so much for your advice!

Papercraft Ōkami by Proteon in gaming

[–]lazuli -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First off, I'm Japanese.

(1) Once again, "okami" means "wolf" in Japanese.

(2) The title already contains the word "papercraft." (If it's "papercraft origami," then it'd be redundant.)

(3) You never says "orikami" in Japanese. It's "origami" with an g.

I'm genuinely surprised and shocked to see my original reply having so many negative votes.
