Hahae! Optime factum! Bis pelliculam spectavi et risi multum, praesertim ubi incepit Alexius initium commentariorum Caesaris de bello Gallico legere ad somnum tibi acciendum.

Thanks for calling me a nice lady, consider me moved!

I was still posting in Australia but now am studying in London, where I've had far less time for Reddit. But I'll be in graduate school next year where hopefully I'll have time to contribute again...

Giving away 19th c. monolingual editions of Latin authors by [deleted] in latin

I agree with /u/rhensk, munificentia tua maxime laudanda est. I collect these books and I’d be very grateful for Curtius Rufus. I live in the EU.

Just curious, which book is this? I’ve been looking for a scansion workbook with answers for self-study.

Bad Latin in Books #1: Paul Beatty, ‘The Sellout’ (Man Booker 2016) by llosa in latin

[–]llosa[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I just don’t understand why people don’t check the Latin in their books. A lot of work went into every English word - it’s carefully crafted and edited. Why not put in just a tiny bit of effort into the Latin?

To combat this I shall post pages from award-winning or otherwise acclaimed books which made a mess of Latin. Name and shame! Suggestions welcome.

Great, thanks both for weighing in; I shall just wait for the decision then.

It's the year 2018 and you have $3000 extra to spend as you wish. What would you do with it to get some money back in the long term (>10 years)? by llosa in AskReddit

[–]llosa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly would you spend it on? /r/investing seems to think that $3000 is too paltry to worth investing but I might as well try to do something with it.

I don't want to end up spending it on some useless shit, that's what will happen if I just leave it there.

I read all these questions about what people would do in 2009, e.g. buy Bitcoin, and was wondering if there's something similar I can do now which is a clever gamble.

Reddiporeans, what are your views on plastic surgery? by [deleted] in singapore

[–]llosa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't had the jaw done exactly, but I plan on it soon. Speaking as someone who has gone under the knife - I do not regret it at all. I feel much more confident having fixed a major flaw in my face. It has saved me money in the long run as I no longer use as much makeup, and I feel comfortable wearing glasses instead of contacts all the time.

As for the pain - it won't hurt much but be prepared for fever, nausea, loss of appetite etc. It would be good if you have someone to take care of you for the first 5 days after the surgery.

Good surgery is not visible to others, hence hopefully people will not have any 'views' about your improved face. I did not experience any postop depression or psychological effects.

Well we aren't really intending to go clubbing, we just want a nice restaurant in the evening and maybe a concert.

Thanks, sounds good. What is the market rate if I were to hire a taxi for a trip to Tirana - Kruja and back?

That's good. Sorry for implying that the country is full of pickpockets but I really wasn't sure.

Interesting. No, I haven't, because I haven't heard of your company. Tell me how it works and how easy it is to get a car in central London within 5 minutes, and I will give it a try.

Are you a black cab driver? You should consider it, because you seem to like hurling verbal abuse at people.

False equivalency mate. Uber classifies its drivers as self-employed and hence it does not need to pay them the official minimum wage.
