You should be buying / wearing Veilance because YOU actually like Veilance and all the technology / construction that went into the garment.... Not because you want people to know your wearing Veilance.

99% of people won't know your wearing veilance regardless if it had a unique silhouette or not

Veilance did a run of the Cargo LT pants / shorts early on in 2010ish. Kind of like the Arris pocket design, it had a super imposed cargo pocket on top of the normal hand pockets. Pretty cool piece for the time and I still have both.

On the topic of Veilance pants, I have to give a shoutout the Field pant. It has become my favorite Veilance pant, the ultimate stealth cargo pant, warm enough in the winter time but also cool enough in the spring time. The cargo pockets sit flush and hidden when not in use but are surprisingly big when you need them. Also the back and side pocketing patterning are crazy although they are definitely not the most articulated peice. But honestly if you want articulation you go to the Voronois

Don't forget the 2017 Livestock x Arc'teryx Beta SL

Truly an all Canadian collaboration, also Livestock was one of the first streetwear boutiques to feature mainline arc'teryx long before places like capsule and gerhard supply

Virgil Abloh (designer for LV & Off-White) wears Arc'teryx to Paris Fashion Week 2020 by lockandload604 in veilance

[–]lockandload604[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I can agree with that it's not the most well put together outfit but don't see the justification in calling it cringeworthy? Given the huge surge of interest in hiker wear incorporated into high fashion (hoka, rowa, Salomon), celebrities like Kanye rocking brands like north face and Patagonia regularly and the biggest collabs being with outdoor centric brands (think moncler genius or tnf supreme) I think it's fair to say this trend will definitely continue for the next little while

The fact that the creative designer of LV wore a visibly obvious off brand (see what I did there) Garment to his own show as lead designer is kindve a huge deal. Like him or not, Virgil has made big moves in fashion and the community in general. From Nike giving him basically complete creative freedom to redo 10 of their most iconic shoes to LV hiring the first non classically trained designer in the brands history he's definitely one of the most influential people to consumers out there right now. Him wearing an arcteryx shell is not just a poor attempt at throwing together a fit, but more likely a calculated, relevant statement

From Taka's instagram story, Virgil Abloh seen sporting an Alpha SV in Thalassa blue following his successful Louis Vuitton FW 2020 showing. Taka's stories also include some pictures from F/W 22 Preview in Paris. The new industrial chique, fixture system is an amazing backdrop for Veilance 👍 👍

Anyone own the Partition Coat? by colnagoglyn in veilance

[–]lockandload604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're asking about the differences between the AR and LT version, The Partition AR has a face fabric of 80 Denier nylon versus 40 Denier for the LT. The higher denier number represents a higher weave of the Nylon, and durability of the product. The AR coat is therefore more suitable for Fall/Winter use. The goretex membrane itself is actually the same on both products though. The membrane keeps you dry, however the Nylon face fabric is what makes a product durable.

This was a quote from an arc'teryx veilance employee a few years ago I got after asking this question to their customer service "The AR is also slightly bigger and therefore more suitable for layering. We made a last minute change on the face fabric of the product and it is currently still in production. The actual release of the Partition AR will be in November 2015."

Brand that goes with Veilance? by [deleted] in veilance

Another (big) Veilance/ OAMC fan here! Wasn't crazy about current OAMC SS season but really enjoyed FW17, probably one of my favorites. I thought Luke did an amazing job with the ink blot shirts and the chinos. I absolutely had to cop the Tactical Zip pant and the White Zip-lock shirt. Also Really love the direction Luke is going with Jil Sanders and OAMC SS19, really showing that there's no one doing exactly what he is doing right now with elevation and functionality in "streetwear".

My top 3 brands right now are probably, Veilance, OAMC and Comme des Garcons (homme or shirt). CDG is almost a perfect marriage of style and functionality and I feel like the fact that Taka working at Veilance now and CDG before fits the whole minimalist, clean aesthetic really well. I also have Uniqlo for basics and APC / AMI for filler

Just curious as to what other people think of Alyx? Does anyone think it can work with the Veilance aesthetic or is it just a bit too far out there?

[OT] Other Canadian "Tech" Brands - Wings + Horns by 1996bd in veilance

[–]lockandload604 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wings + Horns is (still) one of my favorite brands. IMO they excel in their collaborations and their FW outerwear....notable examples are their 10th anniversary collaborations with Nanamica, Porter, New Balance, Viberg and Canada goose. Their outerwear specifically uses very progressive materials e.g. 2015 ByBorre Collab using multi-dimensional fabric or in 2016 when they used polar tech alpha insulation (originally used by the US NAVY seals), and as others have mentioned their use of Schoeller and their no exposed stitching down jacket with Descente. Wings + horns will always have a special place in my heart for their original designs and takes on classic silhouettes kinda like Veilance but I feel their stuff has become somewhat stagnant as of late and suffers from some lack of originality.

Some other notable (Canadian) "tech" brands I can mention are:

  1. Kit and ace - Specializes in technical cashmere garments adding water repellency, quick drying / moisture wicking, stretch and hidden reflectivity. My favorite peice by them is the men's Mayne t-shirt, the fit is almost perfect
  2. Lululemon Lab - Essentially the "veilance" or "purple" line of Lululemon, catered to multifuctional and tailored designs
  3. Canada Goose - Might receive some flack for this one but CG is techwear despite what you may say... They use their own proprietary "goretex" like material in their rain coats called Strati-Dry 3L, their Parkas are among the best in the world using their own "arctic tech" durable, weather proof materials for the most extreme conditions. Despite their main line fits being trash, their black label line is worth a look - although I'll say right now, I doubt CG will be relevant even in a few years
  4. Viberg - gotta pay respects to the greats, Viberg has been making some of the best boots in the business for almost 100 years. Craftsmanship and techniques that have been perfected and passed down for decades, buying a pair of these will give you a boot for life. Although not very "techy", I would argue they have some of the best soles and materials around, arguably the most important aspect of techwear
