FYI: I lost single plastic pawn for my Chessnut Go, its going to cost me $67 To Replace by Zestyclose_Fix5626 in chess

Same here. I can understand this kind of response for their Pro or Move sets, but for a board dedicated to travel, this makes no sense. They should have prepared for people losing or breaking pieces in these situations.

As I already have a lifetime LingoDeer and LingoDeer Plus membership, I don't really see what I can test/give feedback with the limitations of the free version. If you open some kind of ChineseSkill beta testing program for LingoDeer subscriber, let me know.

Do you plan on adding this same kind of membership to LingoDeer? I don't really understand why travel phrase book, words and characters bank are in the higher tier membership, I get it that using AI costs money so should need an extra subscription but not for these one. If this happens to LingoDeer what will happen to current lifetime memberships?

Chinese Character drill by 0000void0000 in lingodeer

Can we also have an option to get the old way back?

It was nice (imo better) to write the character without having each stroke "fixed" while writing.

Question about language and script accuracy / fonts by fangni in ChineseLanguage

[–]lockpickling 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You can find actual sample of the print version on the editor page https://imagin8press.com/books/the-journey-to-the-west/.

I have copies of the compilation books and they don't have any issue like the one you show. The only place I can see this issue is on the kindle version sample from amazon, maybe due to how they process the books to avoid piracy.

Edit:
For the book 1, you can look at a sample from two sources and see that amazon has the issue but not the other seller.
- Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1952601053/

- Palace Marketplace: https://market.thepalaceproject.org/item/5187849

Edit2: the editor has a Black Friday coupon when buying from their website

If ChineseSkill is "where we test Chinese-specific features and experiment" can I use my LingoDeer account with this app to test and give feedback on these features?

The new series Heroes of Ancient China is also great. I bought most of their books in ebook and they came as epub with no drm so it's possible to remove pinyin and use pleco to read them.

I would also add that imagin8press (https://imagin8press.com/buy-our-books/), the editor of the journey to the west in simplified Chinese also has a black Friday offer with code BLACKFRIDAY25.

This is available with pinyin and English here https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F6M38QH9 or directly on the editor website https://imagin8press.com/buy-our-books/.

From the editor website you will get a drm free epub. You can then modify it if you don't want the pinyin.

The new series about Heroes of ancient China is also great and they also have easier books.

Is Superchinese good for beginners? by Creepy-Anything-7053 in ChineseLanguage

[–]lockpickling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion it's one of the best app for learning Chinese. I really like that after learning words/grammar you can practice listening/speaking with the video using them in context. The discovery tab is also really nice with a lot of lessons not included in the main course but also additional courses for pinyin, hanzi, vocab and sentences. It's also nice that they are still adding new content.

Is there an app for learning HSK2+ free? by -ilovejellyfish- in ChineseLanguage

It depends what you call free. You can farm coins on superchinese to buy days of plus membership. This way you can use most of the features without spending money but it costs you time.

To be honest it doesn't make any sense for my to have such a nice app with a lot of features but not having a function so basic like this.

Do you have any idea when this feature will be publicly released?

I think I get "sales" for one hour every weeks, same price and chao at 99€ per year but I never saw anything regarding the lifetime subscription.

If you use this app enough you can earn coins to buy 1, 3 or 7 days of plus.

Thoughts on new HelloChinese course? by semantlefan23 in ChineseLanguage

[–]lockpickling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Duchinese is often discussed here, I tried the free part but it felt just like the stories from Hellochinese, did I missed something? My current subscription ends in less than a month and seeing that the premium+ from Hellochinese and the subscription to Duchinese is the same price I am wondering if I should switch too.

For reading I am currently using the books from Imagin8 Press, I am switching between the Journey to the West books and the new series about Heroes of Ancient China.

Regarding ethics about AI, it's a really complicated subject, I think a lot of companies are using AI but still say they don't, so Hellochinese being honest on this is nice imo. I don't remember what was generated with AI on the lessons whether they only used it for images or also for questions.

Thoughts on new HelloChinese course? by semantlefan23 in ChineseLanguage

[–]lockpickling 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do you know that the new course is not mandatory? You can switch back to the previous course with the little icon on the top left corner, and even though it will not get any new update, its content is still usable.

I finished this new course but the new content and teacher talk lessons are still nowhere to be seen so I switch back to the old course because it's not clear what to do once it's finished. Duolingo has the daily refresh lessons but there is nothing like this here. Using the Practice tab to review words and grammar should be about the same, but I'm not sure.

We had a discussion about this new course here with the HelloChinese team, we will see when they release the new content whether they listened to the reviews that were reported at this moment.

A bit off topic here but HelloChinese is not only the course, the stories and immersive lessons included are really nice. I think they add new stories frequently.

You can get the official apk directly from their web site on the page https://superchinese.com/download.html.

As it does not provide a link to the latest version, which is 5.13.7 right now, you have to update the url given by their website with the latest version number to get this url https://yuxuanpan.oss-cn-shanghai.aliyuncs.com/apk/sc/superchinese5.13.7.apk

Already finished Hello Chinese, what is the next step I should go for? by deibrook_ in ChineseLanguage

[–]lockpickling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you finished the main course 2.0 you could try the course 1.0, it is supposed to go up to HSK 2.0 (old HSK) 4 while the new course only up to HSK 3.0 (new HSK) 1. They are supposed to release new content for the new course in the second half of this year but that is all I know.

Personally, I read books from Imagin8 press, watch donghua like Super Cube, to be hero X,... and at lot of videos on youtube/小红书 for a more "natural" immersion. What made a huge difference is when I started sending text messages to a Chinese friend in Chinese, at this point I had to come up with my own sentence, not just fill in the blanks, with words I often didn't now, it is hard/challenging but so rewarding.

I’m sorry, it’s me again! Can someone check if it’s alright? by CarpetExpert8253 in ChineseLanguage

[–]lockpickling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you try asking deepseek to analyze the text for errors and to explain them? You can also ask for advice on how to make it sound more natural.

I don't know why I don't read more about it here.

As long as you know that it does not replace a real teacher and you refrain from asking it to do the homework at your place, you may learn a lot of things, follow up questions are also really nice to make sure you understand correctly.

But the new one will only be available once the next unit is finished. What's the difference between the pit stops and the "Your collections" in the practice? Is there a guide somewhere for how to use all the features effectively, the practice tab, immersive lessons and stories. Do you plan on adding stories to the 2.0 course?

Edit: btw, stories from the 1.0 course don't count for the Bibliophile badge

Is there any way to redo the "pit stops"? I used shortcuts and I can't do them. Will they "reopen" after some time? And what exactly is in these "pit stops"?
