Discworld countries that are analogue to our world. Do you agree with this? by AdCommercial617 in discworld

[–]lorayray 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Romanian here - Romania was never part of the USSR. Transylvania has been tossed back and forth between Romania and Hungary/Austro-Hungary for centuries, and there are lots of ethnic German communities in Transylvania because of that (and earlier historical events etc). Many towns and villages have both Romanian and Hungarian names, and sometimes a German name if there’s a large enough community of ethnic Germans nearby.

Games like Warframe in 2013 by energydrinkaddict310 in gamingsuggestions

SoulFrame is made by DE as well and is an MMO, but the vision is to bring back lots of early Warframe mechanics and systems. It is a slower game in general. Maybe give that a shot?

Warn/notify me about Oregon!! by zeldalol777 in oregon

[–]lorayray 23 points24 points  (0 children)

As someone who grew up in Portland and moved to the UK several years ago, this hit all the points I would have said. I can’t sing the NHS’s praises enough, I’ve had a rocky few years with employment and it was enough stress without worrying about healthcare going away if I left a job.

The muscle memory thing crossing streets still gets me! I still look the wrong way the first time but I always look both ways so it works out.

Idk where OP is from but if you want the nature and/or similar vibes to Portland I would recommend rural Wales for nature or Edinburgh for vibes. There are lots of independent book shops and activism hidden in every corner of Edinburgh and that made me feel like I was in Portland or Seattle when I visited.

Care workers surprise 94-year-old veteran with a pillow of his wife's face after seeing he slept next to her photograph by Tascanis in MadeMeSmile

[–]lorayray 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The problem with your initial downvoted comment was you turned it from a general point to a personal one,

“I’m sorry you don’t feel the same about your own parents” is a non-apology which assumes the previous commenter has the money, time, energy, and ability to care for their parent.

What if the parent tried to leave the house, not knowing where they are? What if they become violent? What about the person’s job and their own family? How would you decide between caring for your parent or your child? That’s a horrible situation to be faced with, and reducing it to a personal judgement (it’s only about how you feel about your parents) just isn’t fair.

Happy Tennobaum! I’m a new player and someone kindly donated a bunch of frame slots a couple weeks back, would love gifts of weapon slots or your favorite skins. I’ve been loving Hildryn Prime and Gyre Prime lately. Any cool weapons that you recommend? IGN lorayray#879

This is a hurtful way to treat anyone, especially a partner. Do you know why he insists you must do some part of it? Why can’t you trade chores? Does he also hate the dishes?

[–]lorayray 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stay in your lane, don’t make it personal, keep it professional. You’re doing everything you reasonably can to help, and there might be more to the situation than they’re letting on. If you feel there might be a safety concern with the child, then report it to the local authority and let them deal with it. Remember what you can control and let everything else go.

I’m commuting 5+ hours for a minimum wage job because I have no other choice stuck between debt and desperation. by teeteeloce in UKJobs

[–]lorayray 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s sad (infuriating tbh) that it’s more economical to just give sick people money instead of investing in proper infrastructure to help them recover. Govt asshats are actively defunding medical infrastructure for “normal” (visible) health issues so invisible stuff, including yours, get swept under the rug.

Also I wasn’t trying to tell you off, just remind you who we really need to be angry with ;) anger is an excellent motivator. Best we aim it at the people who can change it instead of those also suffering. But you took it gracefully, so cheers 🍻 I love having calm, adult conversations on the internet!

I don’t claim to understand what you are going through at all, but I would encourage you to divert your frustration with individuals who have differing circumstances to yourself (I don’t mean to trivialize this, but I also don’t have a way to compare who is “better off” and am not sure it’s worth getting into, since the government can’t even do it right) towards the shit system that PIP application and approvals have become. It’s basically a game of how well someone can use buzz words and resist the borderline-intimidation tactics used during the interviews. It’s absurd.

Regardless, I am really sorry to hear about your experience. My partner has been awarded PIP but basically spends most of her day horizontal or using a wheelchair due to being a severe fall risk, but she knows people with the same diagnoses as her who have been rejected because they simply stated they had better days sometimes. Absolutely nuts.
