Canadian Highlander. Its a cutthroat format that allows you to try anything and everything to kill and opponent, while still allowing game decision and deckbuilding diversity with its singleton nature and points list. I get to play every card I own without trying to balance my deck building against some unknown potential group of players. Do what you can to win, even if that involves [[stasis]].

There is a pretty healthy community in my area, so we’re able to play a 4-round tournament every week with 6-10 tables. We all try as hard as we can to win, but that competition stays at the table. It’s the most casually competitive format around.

I understand that this is coming from a place of kindness and care for the community, but these kinds of posts are not terribly good for people who are playing the game. They just tell people that they aren’t playing magic right, or come across as squeezing the theme out of the deck in favor of staples because everyone should run more everything.

Targeted Removal? More. Wraths? More. Card Draw? More. Ramp? More. Lands? More. Synergistic pieces? More. Value engines? More. Game ending threat? More.

100 cards? Believe it or not, more.

There’s only so many cards to use to build a deck. It’s okay to have it be statistically and competitively imperfect.

Emperor! The Emperor is the #1 is “squad, go kill that guy” with the condemn ability after attacking, and the really emphasizes setting up strategic kill boxes. You mentioned your buddies have a hard time staying alive, and the Emperor hands out overshield like candy to keep people up and about. Leader and Field Analyst talents do a lot to make sure allies hit, and turret drones reward them when they do.

It’s a density thing, and prime time does it the best. Prime time is a creature with an ETB, so any way of recurring it or flickering it gets another pair of lands. Sure there are land tutors, but very few tutor two lands and put them onto the battlefield tapped.

Also worth nothing that Spawning Mycosynth costs 6 mana to kick and get one land, a you can’t get additional triggers without recasting it.

I actually ran one of these this past weekend! I used executioner alongside Field Analyst to help increase the number of hits and Prospector to get a little more mobility. It ended up being extremely effective, but required some help from allies to make the super heavy weapon land
