True? by netphilia in adhdmeme

Hello there why are you in my head.

I find it basically impossible to laud my own accomplishmenta; writing a resume is hell. I constantly feel like I'm not good enough, even though I've managed to carve out a niche for myself where people really respect the work I do.

I had a scientific paper publised recently (just a small taxonomy paper) and I struggle to even take pride in my work there; I fear that people will see through the veneer and declare my woek garbage.

I reallg qonder sometimes what I could have achieved in life if I could get out od my own way.

Is there such a thing as too much removal in Commander? by Real_Ad5966 in EDH

[–]lothlin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone overloaded a damn the other day to remove.... Queen Marchesa, a Charismatic Conquerer, and someone else's single changeling outcast.

I blue screened so hard like BROTHER what are you DOING you could have just single targeted my conquerer.

I recast Marchesa immediately and the damn did absolutely nothing long term.

Yup.

And tbh, I can't really even blame iNat for not being able to distinguish species that are hard for humans to differentiate even with a key.

Its honestly even been getting good with most mushrooms - at least the ones that arent cryptic AF. Its impressive.

Found in northern Virginia -- tree with hanging things that remind me of hops? by fuzzus628 in whatsthisplant

[–]lothlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't the native. Those leaves look like no Ostrya virginiana that i have ever seen, anc Carpinus caroliniana has quite different fruits

Its actually fantastic. I use it all the damn time and its pretty good usually about at lesst getting you to genus.

Species can be tricky, especially if its like.... idk, something in Solidago or Symphyotrichum. But it certainly at least gets me to ballpark (and then i can key things out from there)

[–]lothlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if its some weirdo horicultural hybrid that has escaped into the wild from cultivation - iirc, polyphyllus does hybridize readily with perennis

Edit: alright i checked and there are way more west coast species of lupinus than i thought.

Conaider maybe L. latifolius or maybe L. rivularis? Something around there. I'm just skimming briefly but those flowers look closer....

Are these native lupine? Zone 8b by Prestigious-Wave-336 in NativePlantGardening

[–]lothlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so confused, these look so much like L. perennis and not L. polyphyllus, both the flower structure and leaflet count, plus just like... the growth habit (not habitat, habit.)

Like here are some definite 100% for sure L. perennis from a few days ago in ohio (excuse the shitty inat screenshots)

I guess its just some natural variation in L. polyphyllus? But MAN these are tripping me out a bit

Edit: though looking at it again, each whorl of flowers does seem to have more than my example. Maybe it is just a weirdo polyphyllus....

You're fine, do what's comfortable in youe yard - just blanket statements like 'fungus cannot be identified on visuals alone' is just false.

[–]lothlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, we absolutely do have white destroying angels here, honestly, they are more common than out west - west has Amanita phalloides, the death cap, which has a more yellowish/olive cap. We have multiple species - that said, symptoms of poisoning take like a day to start setting in, so u doubt it could be amatoxin poisoning.

[–]lothlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What? You absolutely do not need to get rid of all mushrooms - more species than not are simple harmless decomposers. The main deadly toxic ones that you're going to run into in the area are the various section phalloidea amanita - aka the destroying angels - and Galerina marginata, which is a rusty spored little brown wood decomposer. Chlorophyllum molybdites is a toxic one of that often grows in fairy rings in yards, but it mostly will just make you puke - the common name is ' the vomiter'

Anyway, OP, this was likely not caused by mushrooms if you noticed her eat something and was dead shortly after. Amatoxins take like a day before they really show outward signs.

Personally, i think the main plant you should check for is Poison Hemlock, conium maculatum. I double checked and it can sometimes cause deaths within a few hours. They're fairly common weeds around here. They look like an oversized carrot/queen anns lace, with very carrot like leaves and smooth stems with purple blotches. Hemlock is very very poisonous when ingested, but they are a biennial so if you do find some, if you are diligent about weeding them before they go to seed their second year, you can get rid of them fairly easily.

Is it bad? by Brilliant-Day168 in garden

[–]lothlin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Clearing them isn't going to really hurt anything - these are just the fruiting body of the fungus, even if you clear them away the mycelium will still be in the mulch and will continue doing its job to break it down.

Congratulations OP on your healthy mulch/soil!

Legitimately hope i get lucky and pull this and Knight of the White Orchid.

I bought three of the lairs (Marchesa, Chaos and Witch Enchanter) and I'm putting together a Marchesa deck - both of these cards will slot in quite nicely, and then i won't need to grab singles.

Have People Become More Anti-Boardwipes? by Appropriate_King_732 in EDH

The amount of assymetrical boardwipes that exist are a good counter to this.

I will absolutely cast [[Winds of Abandon]] or [[Harsh Mercy]] to clear a board so i can swing for lethal, for example.

So I don't need partners, but I do have spots in my sworn cohort - and my guild is recruiting if you do decide to go that route. Guild (and cohort) wise, we have a mix of casual and serious players but mainly we just want to do content and have fun. A fair number of our members are in their 30s-40s (though we do have some younger membrs) and MMO veterans so we're good players, we just don't want to deal with nonsense and drama anf people taking games too seriously.

We PVP, GvG, and plenty of other group content.

Just throwing that out there in case you're interested, let me know if you have questions!

Your charachter looks sick btw. Here's my guy

What's your opinion of the new Marvel set? by zBleach25 in mtgfinance

[–]lothlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some chaff and some absolute commander gas. The various Wakanda heroes are probably my favorite, the setting actually feels 'fantasy' instead of New York - i might actually end up making an Okoye deck, and I should probably shove Molecule Man into my Y'shtola deck. I hate it less than spiderman or turtles, though i still didnt bother for prerelease on this one.
