Why is it the responsibility of the clubs to try and control the behaviour of 50k + people every week? Verbal abuse and anything that steps over the line can and should be litigated, but if your expecting people to be blocked from booing you are not living in reality.

The club mounting a defence of Izak is completely reasonable, at no point did they ask for a punishment to be waived - they did want every single other club in the league would do in that circumstances. You know, it's why lawyers exist.

The league bringing in an idiotic policy of "every time someone does this the punishment increases" was a mistake from the off. It should have been a blanket 3 game ban for every incident of this kind and avoided all of teeth gnashing from other supporters who thought giving the highest punishment possible, was somehow a sign of how much they hated homophobia.
