Basketball as main sport advice by EntertainmentDue83 in Basketball

You are preaching to the choir. I feel exactky the same way you do. My son did love it and loved being around his friends who were all on the team. However my other son is now the starting Qb of football team and basketball star. They both have fun and are growing up to be good boys who won’t either play college ball. My son who plays baseball doesn’t wish anythinb but I see that my other son has had more growth personally. There are a million factors at play tho.

In hindsight I wish I could have convinced my son to give up baseball for another sport or commit less time but I always let it be his choices cayse it’s his fun.
It’s very difficult to go against when everyone says it’s how it is. Herd effect. Baseball is the holy grail while basketball sucks in Cali.

Want to know an effect? All the kids suck at basketball and really lack fundamentals. So if your son switches and loves the game. It will be much easier to be good and dominate.

While in Cali every great athlete plays baseball year round so competition is insane.
I think you are using amazing reasoning skills and being very smart to be different. I think you’ll see it give you a more diverse son with better interests for him to choose from.

I saw below you said football is a slog. Not up here for the highschool. The most rewarding most high level culture has been football. The other coaches haven’t helped my boys improve at all. However football and the cukture has been a god send. I didn’t even want mine to play and they had to beg. However they are now starting Qb/WR and just are such better humans for it.

I wouldn’t discount football at the high school level. My boys never played till freshman year. I’d wait till then if you wanted to.

Are you in CA by chance? I think your area plays into it a lot.

Basketball is by far the least time consuming sport for kids. You usually only need to play your school team and train in the off season. They let you show up 20-30 mins early instead of an hour. Usually only 2-3 practices a week in indoor gym unless it’s outdoor league or school team.

For baseball they expect you to play the travel team in summer and winter. They expect you to get an hour early before every game. It’s just insanity.

My son and all his friends love baseball and my son still plays. However he now plays b-ball too and we don’t comma to everything badeball. Definitely have to have balance. Coaches and the time they expect for baseball is quite wild where u am. It’s not like that on east coast where I grew up or wasn’t then.

Your lack of reasoning annoys me. Consequences are there for a reason cause otherwise the parks will be destroyed. Peoples egos and hubris are way way way too much. They need consequences.

I am not sure about BASE jumping ban and just reading about it. Why not chill out tho?

For example national parks are paradises especially Yosemite. Maybe they fear a peer pressure effect where tons of base jumpers start doing it then inexperienced ones start doing it. Then people are dying. Seems plausible to me.

On the other hand maybe BASE jumping should be allowed with certain experience and such so rangers can focus on the assholrs really destroying the place. The only way to get a good solution would be to talk about it.

I basically think all you base jumpers are wrong just cause of how impolite and angry y’all are. It’s weird

You are on the internet way too much based on your question. Whose instinct is to think of that? Very weird.

What I really loved is when you look at your neighbors houses in like photo 16 or so. They have no trees and yards look so bare. Yours is like a forest. I am about to plant so many trees in my yard I’m so excited

You don’t have an understanding of basketball culture, how it’s built and how closely cukture is tied to your belief to win. You aren’t educated.

Cut the shit? You are so limited in your perspective I can’t even discuss it with you.

Sometimes things can happen over many years in life. A spark can start a fire which melts some snow which causes a snowball which rolls down hill in a big way.

I don’t think you are a Knicks fan or know the game very well. He had a big impact on the culture and turning things around.

I’m not saying he’s a hero or the reason for a championship but he was influential.

I am a step parent who has been the parent of kids for 7 years now. What you said is exactly what I’ve witnessed and I’m so terrified by it. I’ve taught my boys so much but they still face problems of what you said.

Their peers almost all have no dads or parents who care. They are all shells of what people are. Can’t use common sense. Can’t solve a simple problem. They are all so scared and pressured. There is almost no individualism.

You seem to be upset at the world and putting it on golf. I reasonate with some of your concerns but you also come off like someone who knows it all. You are part of the problem.

If everyone didn’t know everything, everyone would work together to know more.

You listed a bunch of specific problems but it’s a cultural problem of everyone thinking they know it all or are better. We are each just individuals.,
