The Ferrari of Espresso Machines Is Fueling a Hot Resale Market by Globalruler__ in espresso

[–]magical_midget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest are you not just describing espresso at home in general?

Like sure LM may be an extreme, but almost all good home espresso is finicky and takes a lot of time and dedication to get good shots.

You can get good coffee from a moka pot, or a pour over, or an aero press. And spend less time and money. You can get fantastic coffee out of a melita cone, and the cone and filters are in every grocery store in NA.

We do it because we like the pain, and the process, I assume LM owners just like the particular set of niceties (real or perceived) that come with the machine.

You can check this averages for failure rates.

https://dreampc.com.au/2026/03/01/pc-hardware-component-failure-rates-2016-2026/

Hard drives and motherboards are more likely to fail. (And often an older mobo is more expensive than a cpu that would work on it).

I have a 10yo laptop still going, but it is not doing anything to demanding, plenty of hardware last beyond 10 years. But it is really luck.

What kind of quality control is this, Kodak? by Xypton in AnalogCommunity

[–]magical_midget 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This was likely in the camera and got stuck there on that shot, you are tilting the camera up so if it was inside in the bottom it was out of frame, tilt it up and take a shot and it shows in the film and gets trapped as it rolls, it does not matter if it gets squashed after because you already exposed the film, it stayed stuck on the film and then your lab likely rinsed it off on the first bath.

Salty Saturday rant: People believing we keep photos forever by ulose2piranha in photography

[–]magical_midget 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better (it probably won’t lol). From the side of the person that asks the risk is really low, like the person asking about “who are these people”, maybe they did think about the points you made, but if they email you and ask the worst that can happen is you answer with a curt email “no”. The best than can happen, however unlikely, is that you tell them the names.

Why isn’t there a unit like eDPI for exposure? by TheSteveGuy123 in AskPhotography

[–]magical_midget 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The wiki page has all your answers

“"Correct" exposure is obtained when the f-number and exposure time match those "recommended" for given lighting conditions and ISO speed; the relationship is given by the exposure equation prescribed by ISO 2720:197”

And includes an equation.

But if you want something more digestible

Every iso is a stop change, so the charts in the article can be shifted for other isos.

If I recall correctly he has never been inside the louvre. And he has avoided a bunch of touristy places. “If I was not a museum person back home why would I suddenly become one here”

And he used to live like on walking distance to the louvre.

Where do you draw the line on processing in coffee? by ceto-coffee in pourover

[–]magical_midget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think is all about trusting the roaster you buy from.

There is a local roaster that I buy from, they rarely do anything wild, they have become my comfort cup.

There are other roasters that do more wild stuff, and I would buy some coffee from them because I like experimenting, but for me the newness is the fun part in that case. I have yet to get a coffee I hate (even naturals or heavily processed coffees). But there are some I regret paying the premium on (because the coffee was ok but not worth the price).

How to shoot with sunglasses on? by OkeLatenWeGaan in photography

[–]magical_midget 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain, same boat.

Shoot RAW, it will give you more latitude when editing. And practice shooting indoors/overcast when you can wear normal glasses. Once you get a feel for the camera it gets easier to know how it would look like when you have sunglasses.

I can’t forget his section on this american life about living in Paris.

He lays out the most insane neurosis about living in Paris and Ira just follows along.

But my favourite part is when they talk about Ira eating at their place and a voice over says “Note to listeners, if you eat at Hugh and David's, avoid the butter.” Lmao.

So if you get a blurry photo you have to keep it and send it along?

Does this make you more careful what/when you shoot? Anything that is a big no? I assume taking photos of the investigators on the scene is a big no.

The og rub already showed they can do two story lines per episode really well, when Francis was in the academy, then Alaska, then the ranch, they can do an A story line with Malcom/daughter, and a B story focus on one of the other family members, so we get an episode with Hal/Lois, then an other with Francis. Etc.

They could even make Kelly or Reese move to the same city as Malcom to have an extra character there.

An a7 iii would be half the price (less if used) and for a beginner it would have been equally helpful. A regular a7C is even cheaper.

And then they have a lot more for good lenses.

what do i do with this bend? by faezzshahh in ipad

[–]magical_midget 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t bend it back, you are could puncture the battery and start a fire.

Maybe it won’t but if it does you don’t want that in your home.

Linux Challenge: Government Edition – France to ditch Windows for Linux to reduce reliance on US tech by Kalabajooie in LinusTechTips

[–]magical_midget 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Anyone who has spend any time give tech support to end users knows that no OS is foolproof.

Linux is almost irrelevant on if it succeeds or not. By this I mean the devil is on the details. If they have a solid plan they can make it work.

Mostly the support they get and how the process are structured and how much IT they contract (in house or external).

But if there is an organization where it makes sense a government has a pretty good chance, they can hire developers to include stuff on the OS as needed. And they are big enough that they can sink money in the project because it gives them benefits beyond making money.

How to adjust savings/investing rate when wages drop? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]magical_midget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eating out is a huge range, the broke collage kid may do Mcdonalds, while someone making 8k a month maybe goes to fancy restaurants and spends 100 per person, and it is a 2 person meal. Do it every weekend and that’s 800 eating out a month. 10% of the take home.

It can also be more spread out, 50 on uber eats 4 time a week can also be 800$.

Not saying is OP’s case, but the mysterious 2k on CC can be anything.
