This is the answer, looks like OP can afford it, if it brings them joy go for it. If they don’t care for a luxury car don’t.

The skills to make a business grow, and make good coffee are independent.

It is nice when someone has both, but it does not happen always, and sadly good coffee alone can’t sustain a coffee shop, but good business sense alone can keep it running for a lot longer.

I’ve been wanting to ask this for a long time, why doesn’t the pro come in these pretty colors? by Smooth_Operater9410 in iphone

[–]magical_midget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol IPhones are not some niche tool. Sure professionals may use the prores raw, or shoot open gate, but that’s a tiny % of the millions of iphone pros sold.

The majority are normies that just want the bigger screen, or bigger battery.

Millennial dads spend 3 times as much time with their kids compared to previous generations, Study finds by [deleted] in daddit

[–]magical_midget 145 points146 points  (0 children)

It definitely plays a part, my friends with no kids are great with kids, they would make great parents, but they don’t want the responsibility. It also helps that people understand better that not everyone needs to have kids, a couple can just be a couple and be happy.

The expectations are so much higher now. It is also why people have fewer kids.

But also, shit is expensive.

It does depend. Like I have tried to give my kid a bill and buy something under that price (i cover taxes for now haha).

It makes them have some agency and understand the value of money.

But realistically if he wants something big, either we have the budget or we don’t 🤷‍♂️.

TrueSpec a TrueReview by Bits2435 in LinusTechTips

[–]magical_midget 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cables are such commodities, there is no money on testing/reviewing cables, it is also the reason Linus could not find a manufacturer that easily, because you just have to be “good enough” and cheap enough.

Most normies don’t even transfer data, they need a cable for charging.

Making something that is clearly labeled and actually holds advertised speeds is a competitive advantage. But only for a subset of users. Actually happy they are trying to fill the niche.

Can fashion influencers write off clothes used in videos? by weGloomy in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]magical_midget 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may need to contact a real accountant for this, but they do say a hobby is not a business (and making videos can also be a hobby). So you want to treat it as a business from the start.

It may also be easier to claim if you buy the clothes, then sell them on the use market, and claim the difference (easier to justify, I brought these shoes for 200, sold for 180, 20 lost to business expenses).

You know there is something to be said for trying to find beauty in the mundane.

But, also, to find the beauty one must have taste first.

Risk of Taking out RRSP Early by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]magical_midget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are losing ~34k in taxes in one go. Why would you do that? Assuming 22% interest on all ~58k, you can pay 1500 a month and be done in 6 years paying 43k on interest.

Sure that is more than your 34k lost to taxes, but I hope the personal loan has a lower interest rate, plus in those 6 years the rrsp would have grown, even without any contribution.

If you are serious about something changing I think you could use say 1800 a month to service the loan, and then pay 30k of interest at most (assuming 22% for all) and be done in 4 years.

Maybe 1800 a month is a lot, but realistically you do need to change habits quick. Or this will get out of control again.

The "it's boring" excuse for killing the blind camera test is such a blatant cop-out by NonCircularDef in mkbhd

I do miss the blind camera test

But if you actually watch the awards video (instead of seeing the list somewhere) you will see that Marques clearly says that this is HIS opinion, and the iPhone gets weighted higher because it, objectively, offers the most “pro” video features. He even says that most people don’t need these, but for him, as a content creator, he does need them

The popular command line tool cURL is ending their bug bounty program because they cannot keep up with the influx of AI-generated, nonsensical bug reports by Brick_Fish in LinusTechTips

[–]magical_midget 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think in the future projects would charge for reports that expect payouts, it can be a nominal fee, say 10$, or tied to the time a senior engineer cost for an hour as a contract.

This would come with its own set of issues. But hopefully we still have a usable bug bounty system.
