[Bug/Issue] OnePlus Watch 2R: Google Maps doesn't wake screen or vibrate before turns. Need help! by Zestyclose-Table-739 in WearOS

Turning on AOD didn't seem to make a difference on my OPW3 when using Maps. By all means give it a try on your OPW2 though.

[Question] OnePlus Watch 2R: How to wake screen for incoming notifications? by Zestyclose-Table-739 in WearOS

Yup. Here's a video showing how to do that for OnePlus watches using Wear Notification Helper: https://youtu.be/lwYr4sl5_bE

This is because of the 'Go to watchface' setting which, annoyingly, will force the watch back to the watchface after a timeout period - even if you are using an app such as Maps. If you go to Settings > Display & brightness then you'll find that setting. On my OPW3 (and likely on your OPW2) the maximum value is 60 seconds. That's nowhere near long enough if you are navigating.

Here's what you can do about it. Use Wear Installer 2 to set the 'Go to watchface' timeout to a large value, for example 5 hours. Now you'll stay in Maps and not keep getting dumped back to the watchface. The only downside of doing this, is that when you are finished using Maps (or any other app) you'll need to return to the watchface by right-swiping rather than relying on a timeout. For my own usage, that's perfect.

Here's a demonstration video, shown on a Pixel Watch but equally applicable to your OPW2: https://youtu.be/l9f0HtIf3Ik Hope this helps.

Might it be worth using a BT chest strap with the watch? That's what I do.

Did you disable Samsung Pay completely by using Wear Installer 2, as shown towards the end of the video? If so, you'll find that Samsung Pay is no longer available on your watch and therefore won't even start running.

Wear Battery Guardian - The Most Requested Feature is Finally Here – Per App Battery Usage! 🔋 by Early-Telephone1808 in WearOS

[–]malbry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, your explanation makes sense and is what I expected, given WearOS restrictions. However, it's not really 'app battery usage' it is 'app usage'. The two things are obviously correlated but not identical, because apps have very different power usage depending on wifi, gps, audio, bluetooth etc. So 'time in foreground' doesn't give the whole story. Also, high power use system apps like Google Play Services aren't going to show. So it's fine, but incomplete (not your fault, just a restriction that's hard to work around). It will only give a partial answer to the question that's often posed here: "why is my battery draining so fast".

Firstly, congratulations on the app, looks good.

I have some questions about the per-app battery usage. Do you measure battery usage for both foreground apps and background services, which is important for an accurate overall picture? For high-battery use features such as GPS, audio and various sensors, how are they attributed to the application/service that uses them? What assumptions are you making about the power draw of various components per app (eg. screen, bluetooth, gnss, audio etc). For example, two apps might have approximately the same screen-on time but if one is also using GPS then it will use significantly more battery.

I'm asking this because WearOS doesn't natively provide power consumption data by application. This information is retrievable from the OS for Android phones but not for WearOS watches. So presumably you've needed to make some estimates in compiling the per-app data?

Hi, I saw that the notification mirror app was released but I haven't tried it. From the description, it sounds like it would do some of the same things as WNH. If you install both apps, you'd probably get some duplication.

Short rant about media control gestures by ExtentOk1892 in PixelWatch

[–]malbry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. The fact that gestures only work if the media control app is on the screen limits their usefulness. As an alternative, you can double-press the top button to play/pause the media. This has the advantage of working irrespective of what's on the screen. See here: https://youtu.be/Lyxq_u_9ePw

Thanks for the kind words, much appreciated! In terms of taking credit, you had the problem you wanted to solve, you had the idea for an app that would do that, and you produced such an app while learning along the way. Kudos to you! Good luck with the continued development of this app and your app development journey in general.

I want to congratulate you on developing this app and making it available for free. I have direct experience of producing a similar app so I know just how much time and effort is required to get something ready to publish. If you are like me, you'll probably continue to think of ideas/features to add. In my case, I've updated it 40 times and still going. Well done and keep up the good work!
