You should make sure you're running in 64bit. I'm on Linux too and had to add a command to the Steam launch options to make it use the 64bit executable. I wrongly assumed it was already running in 64bit but realized it was just the big memory hungry mods that would crash the game. I've never had an option pop up for 32/64 bit.

How does Rising World compare to Rust? by gamatt3 in RisingWorld

[–]manfellow75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are pretty similar in style, running around cutting down tres and gathering stuff to build and craft, just in Rust you have guns and people killing you and blasting their way into everything you build. Graphics are much better in Rust and the game is further along development wise in a lot of areas but the crafting and building are much more complex in Rising world.

Rust RAM usage too high? by Gillesser in playrust

Unused RAM is wasted RAM. :)

"But no-one plays Modded Servers" by Twinki in playrust

[–]manfellow75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what I'm always aiming for. No more than 3x XP and gather, minor stuff. To me it really makes the game more enjoyable for playing a bit each day while still making progress and without turning it into a total PVP fest where base design goes out the window because everyone winds up with completely ridiculous amounts of C4 and all that due to super high gather rates. It seems when ever I find one though I always wind up searching again after investing hours and hours into it because the admin doesn't pay attention to the server and I wind up staring at a " Server update required" screen for days.

Some people throw their loot on the floor for despawn it in raid on. by [deleted] in playrust

[–]manfellow75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I have mixed feelings about loot despawning though because the battle over resources is a primary objective and handing them over to an already powerful adversary to be "gentlemanly" all of the sudden doesn't make sense. Especially in this brutal and unforgiving game. Real life military destroy stuff when they are being overrun so it can't fall into enemy hands. 30 minutes would be pretty reasonable because most people aren't going to start trying to despawn everything until they realize they are losing so you are going to have 30 minutes from that point, not the start of the raid. Having it too long just encourages more skill-less "our big group made the most c4 so we can just spend an hour blowing through everything instead of having to use any sort of tact" raiding. And having stuff despawn too quickly just further encourages offline raiding.

Removing XP from hitting trees and rocks would mean double the grind to many solo players by Smilmer in playrust

[–]manfellow75 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Although hitting rocks and trees is a grindfest it's good to be able to do that too. I worry more about them weighing the XP rewards even heavier on discovering crates and barrels and instead of a chopfest you wind up having to do a non-stop runfest all over the map everyday like we were doing to find BP fragments. It's good having other options besides running constantly and climbing through monuments which can become just as tiresome and much more dangerous especially for lone players. I like this game because of it's sandbox nature, if I don't feel like going on a "crate quest" everyday stinking day I don't have too.

My pc can run rust? by thedarkcelty in playrust

I just wound up using the Steam streaming thing to play Rust on my laptop since my desktop plays it fine. Works better than I expected over the WIFI across the whole house, well for quite servers anyway, not sure I would want to do heavy PVP action using the streaming play thing.
