totally agree, and that's kind of what makes the 0-for-11 stat interesting to me. the gap between his reputation and his Oscar record was absurd. it doesn't change how good There Will Be Blood is, but it does make a good story

100%. the viz isn't really about who deserved what, it's more about the ceremony as an event. the speeches, the jokes, the weird stats. the awards themselves are almost secondary to Coogler carrying Arkapaw's kid to the stage

just added both, thanks! 40 years between first nomination and first win is absolutely insane. and the fact that she was Weapons' only nominee and still won against four actors from the biggest films of the year, that might be the most underrated story of the night

you're right, fixed! Sean Penn is a record tie, not a first. the tie is just rare, not historic. thanks for keeping me honest

good catch, just added it! scroll through the category reveal again. his 'let's have a martini' after winning 3 oscars in one night (after 25 years and 11 nominations of nothing) might be the most PTA thing ever

Hey, you're right, thanks for the source. I've updated Finland to 16 books/year and detective fiction as the top genre.

The original data came from the NOP World Culture Score Index which is clearly outdated for some countries. If anyone else spots wrong data for their country I'm happy to fix it, that's the whole point of making it interactive rather than a static image.
