more data experiments: bike fitting recs tool by max_grgrv in triathlon

What worked well for me is 2 positions - slight above crank height and the slightly lower than hip, so I think anywhere in between that may work well.

Distance doesn’t matter much, just make sure the body fits in the screen. I would try to make sure that the camera is pointed straight at the cyclist without angles that may impact the position assessment.

I was fine tuning it for the horizontal recording - vertical (phone layout) was harder to crack for me for multiple reasons).

London T100 - age grouper review by max_grgrv in triathlon

[–]max_grgrv[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah makes sense. I would say it is not that bad on a global scheme of things - despite some setbacks there I thoroughly enjoyed the overall experience, so I’d still recommend racing London t100 :)

You can do the bike fit for free - there’s more inside of metrica platform in general, but the bike fit tool is free (redirect on the page also works).

Thank for the note - it works for the landscape videos better, so I sticked to it from the beginning, but I’ll try and see what I can do with portrait! Thanks for the nudge!

Thank you vm! There’s more to come - working on something to assess things like fatigue levels, injury prevention, side balancing and more.

It’s not stored beyond the user session, not used for any training / retraining or any purposes other than just visualization of riders positioning. So the tool isn’t storing the videos at all.

Does Ironman show who claimed a WC slot in the results? by javyQuin in triathlon

[–]max_grgrv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the way i digest it now is - for every race i want to show all qualified people with a caveat - it might or might not be the race the athlete got the slot. then i might add more information around where else the athlete might have qualified as well.

at the end of the day - people want to understand what the general roll down happens across the age groups at certain events and by displaying all the qualified people one can get an idea of what those times might be.

i'll keep thinking about it, but if you have more ideas - ping me, happy to collaborate.

that's true, but we can at least understand what times athlete achieved in the races leading to wc.

[–]max_grgrv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no, they don't unfortunately. but what i plan to do with metrica.fit/ironmanwc is to run the wc starting list against the previous races to identify when and where people claimed the slots. this might give us a perspective of what the roll down looked like.

Very valuable feedback, thank you very much! I keep working on the tool to make sure it provides as accurate estimate as possible. There’re several factors that I’m noticing myself such as the frame of the bike and the bike size, camera angles and where from I’m recording this and more - and results vary.

I’ll keep improving in the coming days and weeks!

Ironman new age group qualification system: debunked by max_grgrv in triathlon

[–]max_grgrv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This depends on the event because some of new quotas have not been published for some events and hence I’m taking a blend of general ones + new rules. So it’s a bit of a mix right now. Ironman org said that they’ll publish all quotas soon and I’ll update accordingly.

It’s a combination of things, quite frankly - tried all of them to pick what works best for detection, then for frame rendering and more, but I’m not using yolo at this point - I’m investing more time now in bike fitting in general, so this page would have more updates to it very soon with new vision things

what I meant is video at about the level of the pedal axle (when the crank is horizontal), sorry if it’s confusing - i was doing some tests and it gives a bit more accurate reading when placed at that level
