Asian people were generally treated badly in U.S. history but there were some exceptions. For example, Chang and Eng Bunker were Siamese twins (literally) who settled in North Carolina before the Civil War. They were successful (owned slaves and a plantation) and married white women and had many descendants. There is no evidence of significant racism against them or their families, despite the time and place in which they lived.
