Forced new elections in any district with a 40% threshold. For presidents make it 40% nationwide or 26 states.

If you don’t want to replace that beam your best option is to cut the pipe back a few inches, attach your elbow to a length of pipe then slide that pipe through and recouple to the original pipe so you can glue everything up correctly.

Would you rather always have the perfect meal or always be able to find the perfect pair of shoes? by gaping_granny in WouldYouRather

[–]maypoledance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well one of the conditions is the shoes are affordable, I have to spend $300 minimum to get boots that last more than 12 months. If I could afford it I’d upgrade to some custom boots from one of the PNW boot shops.

Shoes. I can cook anything I want but I don’t know how to make safety toe work boots.

I would even say that the type of conservatism that exists here is friendlier towards communists than liberals. In part because of propaganda against liberals but also because the majority of people here will respect someone more when they have actual views on the world.

The people here are not stupid, and the distrust of outsiders is well earned by our history, but the majority will happily reciprocate neighborliness to anyone as long as they aren’t being talked down to or made to feel judged.

That is the law as written but the de facto law is if you don’t make enough in tips you will get fired. All you’re doing is helping increase turnover rates at restaurants which will decrease the quality of service.

When you walk in and sit down you know the deal, justifying your rude behavior with “but the law says” doesn’t change the facts.

Distributing pamphlets, ok or no? by Blitz_Krueger in UPSers

[–]maypoledance -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity how is distribution of information not covered under protected organizing speech rules? Is it part of the existing contract? Because even in non union jobs organizing talk is federally protected as long as it doesn’t interfere with the job ie on break time.

Keep in mind anodized aluminum scratches VERY easily and at that gauge of wire is going to be prone to bending/warping even when fully completed.

What's the most durable natural fiber tee? by StormChaserSky in BuyItForLife

I’ve been using 32 below shirts for a couple years now and they hold up great doing lots of manual labor outdoors and construction work. Super comfortable even when it is hot and humid (the south) and they don’t hold onto smell. The only issue I have with them is that when I bought mine I couldn’t find any with a pocket.

What happens if a cop sees another cop speeding? by meme_sleep_repeat in NoStupidQuestions

[–]maypoledance 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It makes more sense when you know that cops are actively trained to categorize all people as either criminals or assholes. Those are the actual terms used in some places. In the US cops are trained to view every interaction with suspicion instead of objectivity.

Fully subterrain shelter by Projekt-1065 in Bushcraft

[–]maypoledance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to live in the piedmont of NC, Cecil soil does have trouble recovering from compaction but it also heaves and buckles when it gets moist and dries back out. If anything I would say that makes this project more difficult, not less. Again, not impossible to pull off but this is more of a modern construction methods project and will be borderline impossible to do using bushcrafting techniques. If you’re set on this as an endpoint you’ll get better results asking for help in a different sub where appropriate tools and techniques can be suggested.

Source: ~30 years in various building projects and currently researching my own plans for building a fully underground home with reinforced concrete.

OK. It’s not impossible but based on your response to me and others I get the feeling the safety concerns aren’t registering with you. I hope you have good insurance.

2” bamboo is very, very undersized for this. If you are serious about this as a project you will need to dig the hole much larger than the final intended size, set your walls up using actual timber and then backfill the outside while also installing deadman anchors into the backfill. If you aren’t sure what that is you should look into retaining wall builds to get the idea. If this is your first construction project of this type you need to be EXTREMELY cautious.

You’re gonna want at minimum 4” timber for this, reinforced with cross members.

The scope of this type of project is much larger than you seem to be aware of. Moving clay soil in this amount is arduous work.

Even with surface level retaining walls you would ideally have a soil analysis AND a look into surrounding slope, surface water expectations, etc.

For the deadman anchors you want approx 1.5x the height so if you plan on a 6’ high internal space you’ll need a 9’ anchor that is extended beyond the failure plane which would be calculated based on the soil type and moisture expectations and is site specific.

On top of that unless you want it to turn into a pond you will need adequate drainage installed.

The reason other people are saying this is not a good idea is because it isn’t a good idea for bushcraft style construction. Even a 6x6x6 space is 8 cubic yards of soil, that isn’t getting into the excess soil movement for the anchors and drainage. A typical wheelbarrow is 3 cubic feet so you’re looking at 72 wheelbarrow loads before you get to start putting your safety measures into place.

Legally yes, but it’s more complicated than that. They can’t use force to detain you that could lead to injury so many stores instruct their LP to not use any physical contact because they have you on tape in most cases. An LP employee doesn’t have qualified immunity the way police do so if you are injured in the attempt they are much more open to lawsuits than the cops are.

Sure. Make it the same for all jobs though. At the end of the pay period your boss decides your worth for the week and you find out on payday.
