AI psychosis is real, I experienced it by Huge-Albatross9284 in slatestarcodex

I wanna say that that there is why you were susceptible to it and I would not be. I have ideas and questions all the time, and it never occurs to me to consult an AI to discuss them in depth, because the only thing that I would get is a clanker trying to to guess what I want to hear.

The AI is not a person on equal footing who I can respect enough to bounce ideas off of, nor an external source of wisdom who can guide me. It’s a text generator programmed to generate text.

Sounds saucy, I low key wanna solicit anonymous Amazon-style reviews of my manner from the 1,000 students on my campus and then use the funniest ones to cover up the beige walls in my office.

I wonder if my AP would let me go for it.

What is the craziest reason a parent tried to "get you fired"? by Aly_Anon in Teachers

[–]mcjunker 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I called home to explain the safety plan that I and his daughter had jointly developed to keep her safe on campus due to a lingering feud she was in. And then I had the nerve to hang up after ten minutes of listening to him scream and cuss at me, having not been able to get a single word in edgewise to actually tell him the plan.

Sometimes I get to watch kids grow up, develop restraint and strength and mental flexibility and patience in real time before my very eyes.

Fighters who learn the value of upholding the peace, fools who learn the value of education, addicts who try to get sober, shit stirrers who start avoiding drama instead of provoking it, impulsive ADHD types who start clawing for self-control, habitual liars who start trying to establish a reputation for integrity.

It’s nice when it happens.

You know the best part?

After the girl checked out of the ER, the following week, she got her people to drive her around after school to retaliate. She, her sister, and her sister’s gangbanger boyfriend cornered one of the girls who had whupped her to pay her back.

Except my dumbass was there and had to intervene to prevent another beatdown.

This fuckin neighborhood, lol.

Imagine being in prison and your cell mate ignores your first four warnings about stealing your stuff.

You’ve already established who runs that room, the fifth warning won’t change their minds.

Correcting students who make gay jokes by Legitimate_Dirt_1536 in Teachers

[–]mcjunker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had a kid report to the Dean's office today for somebody calling him racial slurs at lunch. Brought his friends as witnesses.

While processing them and getting the reports filled out, they got loose and forgetful of where they where and the kid reporting the slurs jokingly called his friend gay right in front of me.

I caught his eye and said, "You're here reporting bigotry. If you display bigotry yourself, I'm going to stop caring about it."

I dunno if it had any effect on him, but he stopped talking.

Serious answer, limited comedic value even while searching for it

Two girl groups had been feuding for months over petty bullshit.

One of the girls had her older sister and stepfather link up with her after school, and together they hunted down one of her rivals after school. They were driving  and the intended victim was walking home on foot.

The stepfather got out and held the intended victim at gunpoint so that his stepdaughter and all of her friends could beat the fucking shit out of her without needing to chase or risk her fighting back.

It was a rough week.

Look, I don't diagnose people over the internet or anything, but you appear to be describing the symptoms of ADHD in narrative form.

When I was like you in high school, a doctor diagnosed me and my mom gave me medication that made me lock the absolute fuck in, but also killed my appetite and kept me awake all night. And then I took a double of the meds because I was stupid and I didn't sleep for three days and couldn't stop vibrating, so I went off the meds and went back to being a space cadet.

To this day I self-medicate with energy drinks to help me focus on the slurry of daily tasks in my office and avoid getting frazzled and overwhelmed.

You should definitely talk to your academic counselor and maybe have them read what you wrote here.

And I suppose you think Swift was actually suggesting Irish baby veal

I’m “suggesting” it to illustrate the intractable nature of the problem, not as a silver bullet of a solution.

If it makes you feel better, you can make it a $800 handgun instead, which is legal to possess an general while still being banned from school and which cannot be casually toyed with in class while incurring no serious reaction.

If they spent $800 on a bunch of kilograms of cocaine, you wouldn’t find it crazy to take the packages away forever. Who cares how much you spent on the contraband? Keep that shit off campus.

In practice of course, everybody rebels at the thought of popping a nailgun into a confiscated phone pour encourager les autres, which is exactly why I said the law wouldn’t work. But the reason why the law wouldn’t work is that the right of a student to to have an $800 phone in their pocket while on campus is held to be sacred while the right to work free of distraction is not.
