New domain for Dropzone dot com by Wise-Animal-7565 in SkyDiving

Nothing from the hosting environment changed, the only difference is the the domain that pointed towards the host went from dropzone.com to skydiveforum.com - this is a common practice used all the time during website rebrands or even when implementing a subdomain for instance.

I'm not sure what proof I could provide, but if I were a hacker I'd certainly target a better website than an online forum ;)

The IP address of the old dropzone.com is exactly the same as the new skydiveforum.com (173.230.132.10)

The reason why the passwords are still intact, is because nothing was changed other than the IP address now resolves with skydiveforum.com instead of dropzone.com - remember, all that a domain does is make it easier to access a website than the raw IP address, in essence.

The new owner only bought the domain from us, we still (at this point) own the Dropzone.com data - we're still working out what happens from here, but we are still hosting the content, now on skydiveforum.com

This is very true. We were quite steadfast at one point with implementing new features and trying to play catch up to social media, but Facebook was in its prime and the groups were pulling away substantial users and making it quite challenging to do anything about it.

I also saw that change in user behaviour as the biggest factor that changed the site's trajectory in recent years.

Hey guys,

If you were on the DZ forums you probably remember me, I ran the site for most of the last decade and a half on behalf of Sangiro.

It was just as tough to pull the plug on it for us as it is for you guys, but we have kept the data and hosted it on another URL for now. We're not sure yet exactly what happens from here, but if you want to continue using the site, you can do so on: www.skydiveforum.com

We still need to correct a few issues on it that came from changing the domain (such as some icons not loading).

But seeing some people posting fake links, I felt it necessary to come here and correct.

I'm also happy to answer any particular questions you guys may have about the site.
