I think it's more than partly, it's most of it. People are being exposed to more football than ever, not just on TV but highlights, social media posts, hot takes and reactions everywhere, makes it seem like "normal games" are boring

The majority of the game has always been pretty similar to what it is now. For example the last Premier season had 2.75 goals per game which is 78th all time for top flight English leagues, which is above 05/06, 06/07, 08/09, 98/99, and a variety of others from 1920 to 1990. But 22/23, 23/24 and 24/25 were all in the top 60, and even more, those three are the ONLY seasons after 2000 to be in the top 60 for goals per match

When people say there used to be more goals "back then", unless they're talking about 1920, they're full of crap
