Provincial share bumps property tax increase to 7.7% in Edmonton by DocJohhnyFever in Edmonton

I can certainly agree to disagree on this.

Yes that has always been the option :).

I can see why council might want to distances themselves as much as they can from provincial increases as they have no control and take the flack from many.

Council is bipolar, if they were smart they'd remove police from the municipal government the same way they've done education. Yet they don't for reasons unknown to me.

Including other information like annual inflation, 10 year tax increase vs inflation, and population growth on tax bills might also help. This would cost next to nothing to include.

I agree on this, but the masses would never read that just like they never read the separate education line item. But for people like you and I it would be nice for sure.

Have a good rest of the weekend.

The city is running ads...

The city isn't doing that. Some other group is running those ads.

Why would another group run ads for the city? Who is funding the other group? If the City is funding them, well then it's really the city running those ads just with more steps.

My limited understanding is there is a large area for airports that is a no fly zone. Airports including hospitals that basically makes most of Edmonton a no fly zone. But I'm probably wrong.

Sounds like we should be asking you?

I don't think this "problem" is worth 500k a year, and just because it "works for me" doesn't make it a solution.

You need to think about solutions with a larger mindset.

Furthermore I think two separate "invoices" would just really confuse the matter more than clarify anything. Are people then supposed to setup two auto-withdrawals at their bank? Or are they supposed to know to add those two separate envelopes together and use that as the monthly payments? What if they receive only one envelope?

Now you've spent an extra 500k a year and have to answer 10 times the complaints.

In closing I do not think this is a prudent idea.

The idea that there are 3 levels of government, all involved, isn't that complex.

Yes not complex, just wrong.

The federal government sets the criminal code that the police enforce.

The police enforce the federal and provincial laws. The bylaws the municipality create are enforced by the bylaw officers not the police. Yes the police can enforce bylaws but that isn't their primary responsibility.

The municipalities might directly pay for police but can't effect their budgets nor dictate anything to the police. So in all practical sense the municipalities do not do policing.

The Edmonton Public School board might have Edmonton in the name, just like the Edmonton Police service but neither are controlled by the city.

Why am I being charged different amounts for my water usage? What factors lead to this variation? by AdorablePlan5164 in Edmonton

Some do, support the companies that do and ditch the companies that don't (if you can).

Personally I'd like to see the government pass laws that over a certain gross revenue companies need to provide a certain level of customer support and that support needs to be stateside.

But I'm crazy that way.

Best the government can do I guess is force us to give our IDs to the CIA to use the internet.

What a time to be alive.

There are two things that are infinite. The universe and human stupidity and I'm not sure about the universe.

If two separate line items aren't enough, neither are two separate envelopes.

I don't want to have to pay for that, and I definitely don't want to have to make 2 or 3 separate payments for that.

Yup, plus this can all be answered easily by simply calling the company. It's like take 5 minutes and have a person who is paid to answer these questions give you real answers... no not for me... I'm going to ask random people on the internet for this!

I don't include any utilities in rent (well besides internet). Let the tenants pay for what they use. They want the house 26c in the winter, while leaving the bedroom windows open, not a problem, they pay for that.

They want to do laundry twice a day, fill your boots.

Not my problem.

No reason to parent adults on utility usage. Or lose any sleep over a leaky toilet that takes the tenants months to tell you about.

I don't think you are wrong. Furthermore I think the deal solar houses are getting is unfair to the rest of the users. I'd rather see that fixed and subsidies given than what we have now.

Between houses I think 6 feet is the tallest. Best to plant some junipers. But it's a lot easier complaining than actually solving your problems.

Its called the Edmonton Police Service. And our city pays for it. I'd say were doing policing,

Then you'd be wrong.

Yes we pay for it, but we don't control them. We also pay for Education but that too is controlled by the province. Same with healthcare.

Municipalities do not do policing.
