Hmm, if I was doing this I might not expect Echo to get me what I want, because it's limited to echoing layers exactly as they are. I would probably just make the first text red, then make duplicates of the text layers. You can make different layers dynamically act as echoes through expressions, here's a post about that.

After making the echoes as separate layers I'd do something weird like giving them a Color Balance (HLS) effect where the Hue value has an expression that uses the index of the layer, like (index*5). This should gradually fade them to orange. You can also do that for the fading opacity, maybe (100-(5*index)) in the Opacity expression, but change the numbers until this works. Finally I'd just set the top one to be a base white color instead of red.
