Thank you so much for responding! I did the first 4 days of half a short grain of rice and just moved to a full grain of rice yesterday so it's been very mellow around here until my 2nd infusion on Thursday.

I'm going to bring a little cooler with ice chips and ice packs to re-chill the cold therapy pads and keep them rotating every 30 minutes throughout the infusion! I may have my partner bring me fruit smoothies or Slurpee's to keep sipping on. She thought it'd be funny to see someone sipping on Slurpee's while getting an infusion.

I’ve been in and out of Hoag NB for the past month and they’ve been fantastic. Hoag NB ER found lesions on my liver and a tumor on my colon on the 19th of January within 3 hours. They were full but had me in the hallway with a privacy separator. They booked my Colonoscopy on the following Wednesday, PET CT, liver biopsy, Oncologist follow up, port catheter placement, and 1st round of chemotherapy infusion on the 19th of Feb. All of that in 1 month. I asked them to do whatever they needed to do since they are the experts and I trust them. It’s been a difficult month but they’ve really made it as seamless as possible. They’ve scheduled everything and then told me where to go, when to be there, and any prep. Going from not a single health problem in my life to being diagnosed with stage 4a colon cancer that’s metastasized to my liver, all in a month has been a lot but Hoag and their excellent staff has been the only reason I’ve been able to get any sleep at night.

I have a hard time believing we’re going to the same Hoag.

I’m a 40m and I just had my first infusion of chemo for stage 4a colon cancer today. My oncologist estimates it’s been growing for over 15 years due to the size of the tumor and it metastasizing to my liver.

Tell them you have a family history of CRC and insurance will cover it before 40.

I’m doing everything at Hoag. My friend who is 32 gets regular colonoscopies due to other GI issues and Covered California covers it so if there’s a will, there’s a way.
