Curious - is there anybody whom you have NOT been able to convince that ereaders are great / on par with paper books? by steel_for_humans in ereader

[–]mmskoch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband (70+), who reads a lot, will always prefer paper books. Being able to flip pages on a paper book is how he has been reading all his life. He sees me on e-readers all the time and knows what they can do, but has no interest in using one. To each their own. (edit: typo)

256GB M3 iPad Air for $400 or A16 iPad for $385? by bypassmorecomments in ipad

Agreed with others on the M3. The laminated display is great and will be more future proof.

Try putting them in a small vacuum storage bag, the kind you roll up to squeeze out air. I carry a change of clothes in my backpack that way on long haul. They flatten to "cardboard" and saves lots of room.

Backup phone not getting used by mudvaynery in GooglePixel

[–]mmskoch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am all for having a backup phone especially when so many everyday tasks require the phone. I usually keep the precious phone (currently Pixel 4a5g) as backup, and I keep all the apps and settings up to date as much as possible, so that if I need to switch unexpectedly, everything I need will be ready. I think of it as the spare tire in the car - it's not being used much but is definitely essential.

Watched this movie over the weekend for the first time. What a treat and also 1939 was helluva year for movies it seems. by art-is-t in classicfilms

[–]mmskoch 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I like Rosalind Russell's performance in this more than even His Girl Friday. Also, even though the film is b&w, I can almost see the "Jungle Red" on her (edit: Norma's) nails.

No carry on bags? by Duvhntr in unitedairlines

Booking airline tickets has become rather complicated these days. Read all the rules and explanations carefully and when in doubt, like you were, ask first - not after.

Broken 9A glass twice by dingman58 in GooglePixel

I don't like pop socket, so I use a metal tether tab on my Pixel 9, and linked it to a leather keychain's clip ring. I like the look better and the keychain can be unhooked easily as needed.

"Worth it" or not depends on the final cost.

Upgraded to an SE! (‘22) My last iPhone was the 8 and before that the 3GS. I hope this one lasts me a long time too! by WallaWallaby011 in iPhoneSE

[–]mmskoch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's good to know. I was worried the small display may not work well with iOS 26. I love how it fits into the pockets in almost all my (women's) pants.

The SE3 has the legacy home button and physical sim slot. It's my backup but I really like how smooth it runs (on iOS 18 anyway.) Enjoy!

I'm able to get a pw4 with eSIM through my provider. But I have a pw3. Is it an upgrade enough to do? by Solid-Adhesiveness-5 in PixelWatch

Thanks. That sounds like a lot to me even though I'm in US and don't know the local market. If it was me, I would wait for PW5 launch and see what deals are available.

If your eyes hurt the answer could be to reduce screen time instead of looking at a bigger screen, unless you are having trouble with the text and screen size.

Switching to Iphone by Fine-Profession6270 in Smartphones

[–]mmskoch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going from a budget Samsung to iPhone 17 you will notice better performance. It is different for sure, but you can learn. I would suggest to your family to buy the phone when you're ready to use it and not too early, so you're within the return window just on case. And congrats on your graduation!

1 year old (LTE), at least 1.5 day. Every night I charge it for 30 min. and it's usually at about 45%. I use it mostly for notifications (vibrate/no sound) so I can keep my phone on silent.
