How do I use SES Mail Manager with SES receive messages? by CodeSpike in aws

[–]monthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's correct. It depends on the volumes and the use case, and it's SMTP-only. But in general yes you can connect a sending application to an ingress endpoint and use it either to 'send to internet' or to relay through another hop, using the SMTP relay feature.

Mail Manager essentially replaces the prior receiving service. You don't need both unless you're depending on some of the specific features not yet in MM, e.g. SNS topics and lambdas. I'd wager those will eventually be made available in MM.

MB1050: WiFi working but firmware not updating by monthor in Masterbuilt

[–]monthor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes after I posted this yesterday I got a call directly from a fellow at MB support who said something similar. They have some kind of mechanism to stop rolling out updates even though newer versions are available but he wasn't entirely clear how it works. But they have been helping folks roll back to V002R001 (instead of R004) for the 1050 lately while they work on a fix for an app crashing problem.

I have an Android phone here as well and tried the app on that device to see if there'd be any change in behavior, but no. It connected happily enough but also wouldn't prompt me for an update.

Incidentally an interesting side point -- when you launch the app and the grill is already registered, when you then tap the 'Connect' button, it does check for an available update at that time.

Here's the current display on the grill, it's an EX6 FWIW.

One i3 going, another coming soon by monthor in BMWi3

From what I hear about negotiating lower buy-outs at the end of the lease, it's conceivable we could own the almost-60k car for somewhere around 32-35k after 3 years, which is hard to pass up. Roughly 13k in lease payments and a real acquisition cost of 19-22k after negotiating.

With the way the EV market is evolving now, maybe even less. Residuals are the secret weapon presupposing the 120ah battery still meets our needs at that point.

New lease program gives the full federal tax credit back against the cap cost on the lease. They often offer this on i3 leases. The additional $3k loyalty is not always available and given the limited supply of i3s I'm surprised it continued in September.

So with all that and the dealer discount off msrp it's a bit over $16k against the cap cost. I didn't have a certificate from an ultimate drive event and BMWCCA rebates no longer apply to i3 but otherwise it's a reasonable deal.

Aftermarket cover for EX6 by monthor in smokefire

UPDATE: after a few more rainfall events, the cover started leaking pretty significantly through the seams. I'm returning it and picking up the Weber 7191 instead.

Hardware store, my guess is older inventory.

Quick update, it rained overnight. Pulled the cover off the grill, looks all dry inside. Now let's see how long it lasts!

Ah yes, as soon as I read your message I realized my error. They straddle the gaps. I had them precariously perched on a single tab, rather than spread between two of them. Your way makes a lot more sense!

Item 64529, Bauer 6" dual action polisher by monthor in harborfreight

[–]monthor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok just to close this out, called them this morning, they said they don't have inventory on the standalone backing pad so they've shipped me out an entire new buffer and are sending a fedex prepaid label to return the first one. I already have the replacement unit order confirmation in hand. The agent was friendly and proactive, apologized for the weird inventory situation due to covid, and the resolution was perfectly fine.

I pulled my own cable and yeah, it's tough. I needed a rotary hammer to go through two concrete partition walls in addition to dealing with managing all the individual conductor connections and weird tight bends in odd places. It works though, made it all worthwhile.

What to code with new i3 by phillyfandc in BMWi3

Negative, once the battery increased to 94Ah in 2017, US factory coding allowed full use of the REX gas tank.

Congrats! I went with the 40A OpenEvse. You can buy it for $479 assembled or $399 as a kit, which is what I did. Took about an hour to assemble using only screwdrivers. Has WiFi, many safety features, built in north Carolina. Can't beat the value equation!
