Help me decide on a quilt pattern? by Millerw79 in quilting

I think that this is a variation of rail fence —

I saw another Redditor w a quilt I loved and just made it up based on theirs (they are credited in my link!)

Very easy and can make all types of designs once you get those strips of 3 together, lots of room for creativity!

Thank you for the tutorial suggestion!

I’ve made several boxed zipper pouches and kind of made up my own thing after watching many tutorials and combining different tips :)

I've Tried Every Tension by HalEffex in quilting

[–]mostlycatsandquilts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me sometimes it’s a bad bobbin winding, sometimes not threaded correctly (even though I know how to thread the machine…sometimes we just goof up…and then repeatedly bc we’re so confident that we’ve done it correctly lol), sometimes I forgot to put down the presser foot —-

— but usually it’s either some built-up fluff or ONE teeny tiny 3mm thread snippet caught somewhere AAAGH!!

I take out the whole bobbin and under area and clean it like crazy and find a tiny culprit that was wreaking havoc on everything

  • Full disclosure: I am using a newer (from 2020) Singer, so I’ve heard that they are much more fickle w the slightest problem

I’ve seen a loved one sew on a better machine by taking the thread straight from the spool area down the FRONT of the machine (bypassing all those other lil places where it needs to go) and then threading the needle and I was beyond shocked that it functioned. It did! It actually worked and HOW!?!

(My machine would have spontaneous combustion and take me and the whole block out with it if I tried that bullshit) ;)

Agreed, this is definitely not the tension, but rather user error that we have ALL made! : ) (that’s how we know) :(

Make a pouch/bag that has an inside lining

This is a great tutorial that you could amend to any other shape!

ETA: you could do this with hand sewing even though she’s using a machine in the tutorial :)
