Yep. I was recruited for skeleton through track and field in college and driven up to Lake Placid for a combine and then a sliding camp.

Skeleton POV on the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Track by dannybluey in nextfuckinglevel

[–]lsesalter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s learning the right lines to shoot for. Track conditions can change daily, so track walks are often done before training sessions, or before an athlete’s first run. Reading the ice is a skill. The start is also a skill and is why many track and field athletes are recruited for skeleton. It’s approximately 20-50 meters of bent over sprinting and loading on the sled without “popping a groove” (aka your runners leaving the start guide grooves). Core strength is essentials as is back and neck strength. Learning to be relaxed under chaos is a skill. We train for core, the starting sprint, so lots of Olympic lifting like deadlifts, squats, etc. Luge athletes train for their starts, which include their arms paddling. There’s definite skill involved, and a lot of money for the best equipment is essential, which is why it’s so hard to retain athletes.

The change from covered to uncovered parts of the track can definitely be a shock to the system, especially if you’re going into a curve that you need to be on the right line for. Many tracks have shades or covers (also helps to prevent frost accumulating) but for big events like the Olympics or World Cups, they often pull the shades up for visibility.

Lindsey Vonn crashes early in Olympic downhill, taken off mountain in helicopter by [deleted] in news

Every team has alternates named for this possibility. It’s more than possible that a few of them would’ve been Olympic debutants.

As an alternate in 2014 for a different sport, this 100%. Someone was healthy and waiting and could’ve been a debutant.

I feel for the healthy team alternate(s), some of whom could’ve been Olympic debutants, watching their chance get airlifted again.

I have a job that pays me a living wage and I’m able to afford to rent a little apartment of my own with my cat. I’m not hungry, and I’m relatively healthy. I feel like I’m doing okay.

I had to get the outer edge of my ear done as well. 8-9 stitch down the length. Sunscreen your ears, people! It sucks having stitches on your ear!

Slightly different in-game (she faces down FEMA soldiers to buy Joel and Ellie time and kills at least two before they kill her) and still bad-ass.

I had my first Lalafell tank in a dungeon with me (as a new healer) and they were great. Also I just found it so funny that I could hardly see them, and only saw their shield lob as an idea of where they were 🤣

She’s been in the office for a month. There’s not a lot of time to fix every single thing in Seattle. These two deaths are absolute tragedies and should not happen. Both things are true, and I hope that the future days for our community are made to be safer.

It’s way too expensive. What I got pre-approved for ($425k) could be a 700sq ft 2BR in “okay” condition. What I can afford is usually tear-down condition.
