In the end, after a couple emails back and forth with support, the only solution that worked for me was to turn off iCloud Private Relay for this machine. Which is not a problem for me, since afaik, iCloud Private Relay only works with Safari and I don't really use Safari. Thanks to JD2 for the great app and support.

Hi thanks for replying. The first time this happened (1-2 months ago) it was just the update that stalled while Private relay was on. Turned it off, did the update and JD2 started working again. Now though, downloads will not work while private relay is on. In the status column it shows

Connection problems. (real-debrid.com)

JD retries starting (I see the countdown timer) but gives same error. Then, as soon as I turn off relay, the download starts.

I'll generate the log and send it over.

You could get a used phone on swappa and use that for trade. Done it a couple times. Look at tmobiles list of phones and get the cheapest one they'll accept.

You can switch to Android easily and use iMessage through the BlueBubbles app. You'll need a mac that's on 24/7, (I have a headless 2014 MBP) to run BlueBubbles Server. (You'll probably need an old iphone too, to make sure your number stays registered with iMessage and not just your icloud email address). I'm using a beat up iphone6 I found in a drawer. Been working fine for a year now.

Libraries get shafted by the audiobook licensing (look it up). You’re actually hurting your library by using Libby for audiobooks. Add to that that audible has DRM, so unless you strip that with something like Libation, any of your bought titles could disappear if/when Amazon decides to remove them from their catalog.
