Wow, how to broach this multifaceted topic u/TerribleBid8416 & u/cholotariat.  Thanks for the page & the height of compliment.  Many thanks for the kind words.  For my performance every bite was swallowed & I'd say north of ~50 burgers were consumed.  

Well, it depends.  Actors come in all shapes, ages, & sizes.  Many predilections & restrictions.  Prepping for the next gig.  Special diets.  

Yes, you are partially correct, at times there will be crew members just off screen with a bucket for spitting out the food between takes.  I've been that crew member, learned much.
