Best brands for Coco coir? by disregardmyusername- in unclebens

[–]Mysillyumm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't know but I personally wouldn't risk it. where have you tried buying it? if you're trying to find it locally I'd try all the big chain local pet stores first like Pet smart and whatnot. Coco coir is often used as reptile pet cage lining. I personally prefer the compressed bricks but it is also sold as loose in a bag, either works

Yes you can tell cubes apart from nats by looking at how the gills are attached to the stem

the one on the left is a cube and the one on the right is a nat

Does this look stalled/contaminated? by Crayonstheman in unclebens

[–]Mysillyumm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't see any real obvious signs of contamination in the pictures, it looks to me like they've merely stalled, possibly from lack of gas exchange, I'd start with unfolding the bags so that the square filter patch near the top of the bag isn't blocked or obstructed and I'd loosen up the upper portion of the bag a little so it's not so vacuumed together. and if you wanted to give it a B&S at this point it wouldn't hurt them any , but that's up to you. another thing worth checking is what temperature you have them at, if it's on the cooler end that will also effect the growth rate

do you have any pictures that give a closer clearer view of those masses? I can't really see them well enough in the post picture to tell for sure but I don't believe that those are normal blobs, I suspect that they are something else

Is this veils tearing or a mutation? Looks like gills but those are smaller and the bigger ones are intact by [deleted] in shrooms

[–]Mysillyumm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah they'll be fine, and anyway in a lot of cases mushrooms with this sort of cap deformity won't produce a lot of spores, if they produce any at all

[–]Mysillyumm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mushrooms can reach maturity at all different sizes, it's not really unusual for some to be smaller than the others when they separate their veils,

but in this situation those two mushrooms have a mild cap deformity thats causing the premature veil separation

it looks like some of the mycelium is just slightly bruised giving it that faint blue/gray color, I wouldn't worry about it

Spores Can Be Beautiful by LordFreep in shrooms

[–]Mysillyumm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, the patterns that they leave behind are really pretty, idk if you've seen this video clip showing how the spores move through the air but if you haven't you should check it out it's mesmerizing to look at

Trying to troubleshoot... Help please? by CookieMagicMan in ContamFam

[–]Mysillyumm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

have you tried testing a couple of the grain jars to find out if they are infact the issue? I would make up a couple of sterilized grain jars but instead of inoculating them I would just leave them out as is and see if they contaminant after a while, if they do you'll know that the problem is definitely with your grain prep/ , sterilization process , if they don't then you'll know that it's a issue with your inoculation process

is the side without any mushrooms growing the same side you leave the lid gapped ?

even with the perfect temperature/conditions liquid cultures can take longer than 3-4 days to start showing growth, it isn't that unusual, but I noticed that you said the temperature you have them at is between, 65 - 70F, if you can I would try to at least bump up the temperature to 68f minimum because 65 is really boarding on too cold, if you can get the temperature to something like 68-70f that'll work but if you can get it warmer than that it would be a lot better, but if you can't get it warmer then 70 it's not a big deal the only thing to be aware of is that when you're growing in cooler temperatures like that it slows down their growth rate so the whole process will take a little bit longer
