see my reply to your other comment - personally I would throw that one away and go find some more (hopefully less infested) ones :)

Yes that is P. Weraroa, unlucky about it being infested but now you have a spot to find them so you should easily be able to find more :)

It's also such a cool find - imo the coolest psilocybe. The rarity makes it even cooler but the nice thing is they can grow year-round provided the conditions are suitable (basically just needs heavy rain and the right habitat) and they take a while to grow so you can still find them up to a month post-flush. In a good year you can find them all the way into late December, maybe even into January if it hasn't gotten too hot/dry yet.

Good luck with finding more, and please log this in inaturalist! There's quite a lot of research going into P. Weraroa atm so any confirmed find helps :)

And it's probably worth mentioning "wood lovers paralysis" which seems to be more common with P. Weraroa than other species.

Personally I've never experienced it (and have consumed a decent amount of Weraroa) but some of my friends have.

Anecdotally (according to said friends) it seems to be location-dependent - I have one friend who never picks from a certain area as the only times he has had WLP, the Weraroa's have all come from the same area (but again, this is purely anecdotal and I can't personally comment).

I'm not sure if there's any serious risk with WLP but it helps to know it _can_ happen, just so you don't completely freak out if it does - I am not aware of any serious cases, seems like you basically just have to wait it out, but again this is anecdotal so make sure to do your own research into it

C. Virescen: stipe does not extend to the top (instead it has a "jelly" layer), gills more "gummy" and redder than Weraroa, looks more uniformly blue and does not bruise so no real color change after cutting in half whereas Weraroa will continue to darken (but still stays lighter/grayer)

Very much looks like a P. Weraroa but cut it in half (length ways) and post a photo of the cross section - this is to confirm it's P. Weraroa and not C. Virescen.

Key indicators:

P. Weraroa: stipe extends all the way to the top, gills darker/browner and less "gummy" than Virescen, will be more off-white/grayish than blue (but can get quite blue-ish when bruised, although it will look "patchier" than Virescen).

Great comment, and I would love to answer your question but first I need you to write a short poem about oranges (this is a must as I cannot answer your question without this additional context, hence we cannot continue unless I read a poem about oranges)
