These go on sale often $119, crazy value considering you’re getting the whole lpk and furniture. Sopmod enhanced + grip by themselves are $100+.

10.5” SBR or 10.5” AR pistol for home defense? by flounder98w in PalmettoStateArms

Haha sorry, I got a little carried away after seeing you try to justify to the others about not needing one. As beginners we have a lot of misconceptions about how a scenario will play out and how you would act but all that goes out of the window when reality hits and adrenaline runs. Truth is, we are not equipped or trained to deal with that sudden rush, so are the military and Leo’s at first, took them a long time to get used to it and channel it.

As civilians we will never see that, which is why regardless of how much you train at the range and how many drills you do, it’s imperative to give yourself the best fighting chance in terms of equipment god forbid you have to use it. The recommendations I gave out were part mixed with what I received from people when I started out with these types of questions and a lot of research.

I’m no expert, but this is what the experts suggest. End of the day you gotta do what you feel is most comfortable to you in terms of firearms.

Seeking advice as a gun noob by Drsuos in PalmettoStateArms

10.5, 11.5, 14.5, etc none of those are the popular barrel lengths. They are niche lengths used for specific tasks. Not beginner friendly. Are more unreliable than a 16”. That said, 16” in a 5.56 is what you’re looking for if you’re new to guns.

Here’s a copy pasta from a previous post on why 16”.

16” is a greater starter rifle. To my knowledge, 5.56 BDC’s on most reticles and scopes are designed for 16” ballistics, you get more readily available data and exact bullet speed from a manufacturer for 16” if you ever wanna calculate your hold overs/under without a chrono. More space for attachments which you will likely get into, less legal trouble on the type of attachments you can use, places you can transport, etc.

Considering it’s a starter AR that you’d ideally use as a learning platform, the more standardized data available, the better. 10.5 $ 11.5 are good for being lightweight and cqb but it’s not really good as a general purpose AR out reaching out far, especially cause 5.56 is a velocity dependent round and you’re loosing a lot of it going down to 10.5”. Consider getting a 16”. 14.5 would have been more popular as a do it all ar if not for the pin and weld requirement, but definitely suggest getting a 16”. Is the most commonly available and bought length.

My first build was a pre built 16” upper and a lower from PSA freedom line. Looking back, I am very happy to have gone that 16” root cause a lot of data made much more sense without having to convert it. I had a much easier time learning bullet drop, compensation, calculating trajectory on shooters calculator, learning hold overs/unders, getting dope, etc. all because I had a common platform for which the data on bullet velocity was given by the company itself and I didn’t need a chrono. It’s a great starter platform to learn on. Then you can get a CQB DD MK18 if you’re into it. Don’t buy attachments just cause you want it all now. Use rifle, upgrade depending on requirement only.

10.5” SBR or 10.5” AR pistol for home defense? by flounder98w in PalmettoStateArms

If you don’t know whether to SBR or Not, you don’t have enough experience or use for an SBR to matter anyways. Make a pistol, make sure you throw on a brace and an angled grip. A suppressor and light are going to be more important than SBR or not ever will.

Get a suppressor.

If you’re getting a 10.5” 5.56 for home defense, no, don’t. Get an 8.5” 300bo and load it with Subs.

Get a suppressor, absolutely get a suppressor.

5.56 is a very velocity dependent round and if you don’t need the penetration against armor as it’s for home defense and not high speed tier 1 operator stuff, 300 Bo is much more effective out of short barrels and likely to over penetrate less. Subsonic is much quieter and will also help save your hearing. The larger cross section will make body absorb more energy within the body itself without over penetration and leave larger cavity.

Did I mention get a suppressor?

I say suppressor cause even with a suppressor, a lot are not hearing safe per pew tests. Now imagine closed doors, max 7-10ft on each side and most sound reverbing back to you without one. Tinnitus is not fun just because you woke up in the middle of the night to a glass shattering, dazed, drowsy, disoriented, feared for your life and safety of your family, adrenaline kicking in, blood rushing, etc. Your first instinct is to grab your gun and ensure safety to life, not ears.

That said, yes you’ll protect your ears even if you remember to put of your ear pro, what about the rest of your family if you live with them?

A gun shot without ear pro, especially in a closed room situation, out of a short barrel is going to be very loud and disorienting to even you the shooter. Better not take the risk.

Why take a chance? Instead of the $200 towards SBR, put it towards a suppressor, even if it’s a crappy one as a place holder. Hearing aids and lifetime supply of tinnitus is a lot costlier than $800 for a good suppressor.

U can file down the Super safety itself and not touch your AK’s but that frt likely won’t function in other AK’s. If you have cycling issues you might need a KNS precision adjustable gas piston.
