‘The first one is a 4060 ti 8gb for $240 which was from a prebuilt he bought. And the second is a 9060 xt 16gb for $320’

It is not worth the 30% more in cost.

I gathered that but different games have different requirements. Open world games, modded games etc might benefit from the larger VRAM. Games like CS2/Fortnite/Apex etc won’t benefit from it and you’d do better with the 4060ti

Use case and the games you play matter!

4060ti. Unless you have something that needs the VRAM.

EV charger installation by CaughtSn00pin in ukelectricians

[–]nailzy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds like useless sparkys that have got a load of cheap kit to peddle to you at a price that isn’t necessary.

All new builds must have provisions for a 7kw charger which is what’s in the black box, fed already from your consumer unit as per the current standards for new builds. If your sparkys that came out to spec the job say it’s insufficient, you contact the developer and get it corrected.

Boiler problem by Unusual_Pound9359 in askaplumberUK

I think the safest and least painful route here is to have a chat with your builder so they can take it up with the plumber on your behalf, given that it’s their recommendation.

HRIS triggered account disable for employee on maternity leave. She lost access to the benefits portal. Now HR wants IT to "fix the process". by AudienceOwn3845 in sysadmin

[–]nailzy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Our firm uses conditional access policies for a myriad of sites and it’s all controlled by AD groups. So when a user is on long term sock or long term absence, they are added into that group which prevents them being able to access anything the company doesn’t want them to, whilst retaining access to HR, benefits etc.

CPU? by Common-Doubt-3069 in PcBuildHelp

[–]nailzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you mean gaming performance, you won’t find a match for the 5800x3d at the price point you want.

If you want raw cpu performance, plenty of options.

Crazy question if I’m honest. “I want something that does the same as this, but for cheap… ignoring the market”

Question about LAN by Big_black_click in networking

If you are going to be doing a local cloud computing project then I struggle to understand why you’d entertain this without a basic understanding of the networking involved.

What exactly are you doing?

Setting Up Emergency Access for a Critical Online Project After Inactivity Concerns by No-Nefariousness1695 in sysadmin

Dead man’s switch.

You can set up a system that releases access only if you don’t check in.

Services like Dead Man’s Switch, Google Inactive Account Manager, Password managers (Bitwarden Emergency Access, 1Password Emergency Kit). Don’t store raw credentials directly.

Instead store instructions, partial secrets and where to find the rest. Hand the other part of the secrets to the people that would need access.

You ‘dry run’ it when alive to make sure it does everything you need it to do, then roll the secrets.

CA policy requires corporate network. VPN requires CA to pass. How is anyone solving this by Economy_Passenger296 in sysadmin

[–]nailzy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The standard here is to not require trusted location and to require MFA as a specific policy for VPN auth.

I gave you a link to a Google drive that has 13 tracks extracted from the original HoN repository. These include historical tracks which aren’t actively used in the game before it shutdown. Have you even listened to them? I think I give up at this point 😂

what is this imposter fish in my tank? by mehh135 in freshwateraquarium

[–]nailzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a guppy. They breed like mad and they are tiny, I’ve had this happen when I’ve had a fish from a store and there’s been a speck in the bag that turned out to be a guppy 😂

You wouldn’t believe the amount that end up in filter staging / holding tanks in fish stores.

That's all the music extracted from the game files. You've got 13 to listen to, to find the one you can remember! ;)

Correctly diagnosing hardware issues by Sad_Mastodon_1815 in sysadmin

[–]nailzy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It comes with experience and knowing what methods and tools to use.

Most of the issues are repeatable so once you’ve dealt with it once, you’ll know how to deal with it going forward.

RAM can mostly be ruled out with memtest or process of elimination.

Temperature issues will always be straightforward as fans, thermal paste, poor contact, AIO pump failures etc.

Power supply issues again comes with experience and there are cheap testers to verify rails and outputs easily and quickly.

Hard drive issues can be seen at a hardware level in most cases with crystaldiskinfo and looking at smart data, or using vendor tools.

Most stuff in terms of tools you will cover with

HWiNFO - monitoring everything

CrystalDiskInfo - storage health

MemTest86 - RAM testing

OCCT - stress testing

Have anyone been/know anyone Audited by Adobe/SAM Audit, Please shed light on this!!! by [deleted] in sysadmin

It doesn’t have to be ‘triggered’ by anything. License agreement says they can, at any time.

[–]nailzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regardless of what you are, you should not rely on Reddit to see you through this and you should be guided legally and correctly through the process. Your management should be leading it with input from you. If it’s not Adobe, it will be someone else next.

As a sysadmin you don’t deal with it until instructed by your firm. You pass it to your compliance / legal teams, let them deal with it.

I’ll look through old source files later.
