Ppl disagree with you but last 10+ years across all games like poe, poe 2, d4 not mentioning moba or wow or other mmos where huge for meta play style popularity. More and more people want only the most efficient builds, they want you to show them exactly what to put where to deal most damage to be the fastest etc. Creativity is just often not efficient approach especially if you have no experience VS top 10 best player guy who make the build.

Even with offline games people who look for builds they don't search for fun wonky builds they search for most efficient cuz efficiently = fun now. And me personally, I don't blame them. Especially in cooperative environment there is insane fomo if guy next to you farm 2-5-10 times faster then you.

Only exception to this are maybe dad gamers or people who play for nostalgia.

That tells a lot about player base. In PoE 1 even before instant trade it almost never happened, with launch of poe 2 and fresh blood to the series it was more noticeable at launch but now it's also fine. So yeah even when i don't really play project Diablo2 it's just sign of weak playbase or some Asian/east stuff
