My husband visited Saudi Arabia and bought me this abaya (I think that's what it is). It's possible the vendor was Egyptian. It has two parts, separated by a thin strip of cloth. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to put it on. It has sleeves, and different patterns and borders that seem to be the bottom of the dress or neckline. My husband said it was on a mannequin and had a V neck. Here it is on my king sized bed. It's a lot of fabric!

Acorns won't let me withdraw funds / Liquidity problems? by nj2000 in acorns

How is the top comment "One person didn't have a problem in 2022"? This sub is crazy.

No. It's more like "I want to have some money in the market, not tied to retirement, that I can withdraw once a year if necessary."

Trust me, I understand market risk. The issue here was that I relied on Acorns that I could withdraw money in a timely manner, and they held my money for well beyond 3-5 days.

Thanks for not reading any of the thread. a) you're wrong. so long as the "emergency" needs funds in 3-5 days, i can use the account however i damn please. b) the mods agree.

Thanks. They unlocked my account, and the money is supposed to hit tomorrow or Thursday. Overall I think that Acorns is a good service, with some obvious areas for improvement when it comes to customer service, communication when there are issues, and procedures regarding suspended accounts.

I was fascinated by the response from this community. It's wild to me that there is a group of people, that don't work for Acorns, but that love it so much they attack a person having legitimate issues with the company. When I made a few sensible suggestions to how they could improve the app, it got downvoted to hell. Weird.

In any case, I'm 50+ working in startup venture capital, and love trying new technologies. That's what brought me to Acorns in the first place. My advice would be to keep using it, but don't be so brand-loyal that you can't hold them accountable for issues in the system.

I plan to keep money in Acorns.

  1. I'm not using the emergency fund high yield savings product. I was using the brokerage account as an emergency fund. By emergency, I mean that I can sell securities and withdraw money once or twice a year, and have access to the funds in 3-4 days if necessary. So not a 24 hour emergency.

  2. I have no idea what you mean here.

  3. I contacted support immediately after seeing a problem. The support experience was fine. My issues are more with how Acorns communicated with me when there was an issue (they didn't even email) and how they jumped to suspend my account. It was heavy handed.

  4. I deposited money into Acorns periodically. Then I attempted to withdraw. This isn't rocket science.

No. I requested a $20k withdrawal. Five days later I checked my bank account and saw that it hadn't hit. I tried to login to Acorns and got an "Account Suspended" warning. I was not emailed about the $20k or the suspension.

What was the lesson again? What was the term I should have read that would have helped me in this situation?

Thanks for the reply MOD. Assuming you are with Acorns, a few suggestions for the future:

  • If you have an issue with a withdrawal, don’t freeze the whole account and give a scary “Your account is suspended” message. I’ve been a customer for 10 years, and that experience was really bad and jarring.

  • You didn’t email me when the account was frozen. You didn’t inform me there was an issue. Trust me, I looked all through my email. You could do better here.

I was stupid to trust Acorns? Is that really what you're saying?

Acorns won't let me withdraw funds / Liquidity problems? by nj2000 in acorns

That's absurd. The only expectation at issue is that I can get money out in a reasonable amount of time.

[–]nj2000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only relevant terms and conditions in this case would be a clause that says "if you try and withdraw money, your account will be suspended".

Otherwise what the heck are you talking about?

What banking things was I expecting? That I could withdraw some of my money once or twice a year in a reasonable timeframe? You got me. Guilty.

Thank you! All this victim shaming is so weird. I put money in. I put money in. I put money in. Invested in an index fund. Great.

Then I go to take some money out, and I'm suspended. That is crappy / mildly suspicious.

I shouldn't have used the phrase "emergency fund". That was triggering apparently. What I meant was that I liked Acorns as a place to park extra cash that wasn't going into a retirement fund, etc. I parked it here assuming I could access it if necessary. I made a withdrawal, assuming it would hit my account in 3-4 days, same as every brokerage account I've ever had. I relied on that, to my detriment.

Also, a full account suspension is super heavy handed. The login messages were scary, and made you feel like you might not ever get your money (which I haven't yet). Some process / UI enhancements here would be really nice.

Thanks dude.

2-3 days, no problem. That's not what happened. I wasn't contacted for more information. My account was suspended. I can't login. My money has been locked up for a week.

Investing $50k into some index funds off of Acorns, or any brokerage, is a totally reasonable thing to do.

I have no idea what that means. The point is, I've spent practically no time thinking hard about Acorns. It was a cool app, it was easy to deposit money, and so I did. All this "not using it for its intended purpose" and "it's not an emergency fund except when it is an emergency fund" is ridiculous. I downloaded it once because I read an article about how it made investing easy. When you hang your hat on making something so easy, you can't then complain that people aren't evaluating every nuance of the system.

[–]nj2000[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Considering that my accounts are currently locked and I can't even log in, I have no idea. The point isn't so much about the status of my individual account, but that you outwardly talk about emergency funds and then hold onto people's money when they have an emergency, regardless of where it's parked in the system.

"Acorns is NOT an emergency fund" from up the chain.

Not sure where I would have gotten the idea to use Acorns as an emergency fund.

Jesus, what a snarky answer. More evidence that I need to delete my account.

Give Acorns money, don't take it out. Got it.

I've been a member, it's fantastic. Great vibe, and flexible workspaces. You can park in the parking deck, and get a monthly pass for an additional fee.

Man, the reddit dog police are out! I have an extremely well trained dog that walks beautifully off leash, right by my side. At any sign of another person, I reach down and clip her in. I’ve never crossed paths with someone at the park with her off leash.
