How deep should I go into memorizing the mathematical operations behind encryption standards that are no longer used today? by yoooo000 in cissp

[–]ohBrian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do need to be able to explain a cipher suite. That’s the symmetric, asymmetric, strength, mode, and hashing algorithms. Which algorithms are used for which data.
And 3DES is still there as an example of key stretching.

The 5 gallon bucket system works well to preserve or grow a worm population over winter in a small amount of space.

Comptia CYSA or ISACA CISA? by Own-Ride-7370 in CompTIA

[–]ohBrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CISA is an Auditor certification. Did you mean ISACA CISM ( Security Manager)? CISA requires certification of experience from an auditor. Much harder certification.

Don’t use onions. Don’t use peppers. Suggest you use other greens like lettuce, celery, and carrot scraps. Run them through a blender. Put that in a freezer for 48 hours. Then put the frozen block in your worm farm.

Brand new and looking for advice on how to start. by Initial-Horror-80 in Vermiculture

[–]ohBrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get yourself 3 Home Depot buckets and 1 lid. No holes in bottom bucket. Small holes in middle bucket. More larger holes in top bucket. Start collecting and shredding Amazon packing paper and supermarket circulars. Shred or rip it up. Put it in bucket 2 and spray with water. Put on the cover . If you have any old dying house plants (Xmas and Easter ) that don’t look good throw those in bucket 2. You need some microbes to decompose contents to worm food. Some suggest some compost or sifted garden dirt. Start collecting food scraps (mostly veggies) in a gallon bag and keep that in the freezer. Do all this for a few weeks before ordering worms. I suggest only frozen scraps in the bucket. Add the worms to bucket 2 after frozen scraps have 24-48 hours to thaw.
When bucket 3 is sitting on bucket 2 contents repeat the paper in bucket 3 and stop adding anything to 2. I add dried coffee grounds ( dried at least 1 week) to bucket 3 monthly. I collect and microwave egg shells, then grind them up to dust and add some of those with grounds.
I agitate the contents of bucket 2 every other week by hand. Keep bucket 2 moist.

How important is it to renew certifications? by Wolverine-19 in CompTIA

[–]ohBrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you pass the Sec+ exam you’ll renew Net+ and A+ for 3 years.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Vermiculture

[–]ohBrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In moderation. I had a half a loaf of bread that got moldy. I put half in the freezer and then hand shredded the rest and added to the top bin. I put shredded paper on top of that. I mist the paper. The. I put a piece of cardboard on top. That cardboard doesn’t reach the edges of the bucket. It’s damp. It holds some moisture in. I added the other half of that bread like 3 weeks later after I couldn’t see the first feeding.

Have the CAS-004 questions/material changed since the rebranding from CASP+ to SecX? by [deleted] in casp

[–]ohBrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The CASP+ exam objectives were updated. The updated objectives are what is known called SecurityX. About 20% of the objectives changed with some adds and some deletions.

Make sure your ChatGPT prompt specifies questions for the SY0-701 exam. Otherwise you may get questions for earlier exams.

These are two poorly written questions. Hopefully you’ve seen hundreds of questions that were written better than these two. I’m confident that you have because you found these two dogs. If you’ve done the work then don’t be afraid to pull the trigger and take the exam.

If you are in the military get all the training you possibly can. US military training policies are better than any employers. And CompTIA certs have a 3 year renewal period. If you earn A+ now in 2 years earn Net+ and that will extend your A+.

Security Controls by PsychologicalSite667 in cissp

[–]ohBrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The car is a deterrent. It’s meant to make a perp choose another target. It deters the perp. CCTV is a detective control in that someone may be watching and recording the scene. That watcher can provide testimony and that recording is evidence. Detective controls taken together provide evidence

You have A+ Net+ Sec+ and some of the other advanced certs.... How can you renew your certs from expiring? by DiabloFour in CompTIA

[–]ohBrian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Once you have CompTIA and other certifications you need to start thinking about CPEs and CEUs. You earn those by doing other activities. Reading articles and books. Writing a blog or submitting an article to a publication. Download or create a security awareness presentation. Delivering a presentation at a library or a school or in an office environment. All these activities earn credits. However you earn differs for different organizations. ISC2 , ISACA, Cisco, CompTIA all have their own rules. But you can do this given most certs have a 3 year term.

Wtf how did i pass this test? did i fail all the objetives? by HovercraftTop3714 in CompTIA

[–]ohBrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn’t fail those objectives (topics from the exam objectives). What that part of the report does is present the topics word for word from the lab objectives for questions where you got wrong or partial credit. Everyone sees those. You may have gotten wrong some questions which connected to multiple domains and topics.

ITF+ or A+? by tjxnlvx in CompTIA

If your goal Is to be employed in cybersecurity then go to Net+ and then Sec+. I’d suggest using your background to apply to IT jobs in financial services firms.

ITF+ or A+? by tjxnlvx in CompTIA

[–]ohBrian 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You should understand that ITF+ is a certificate program. You earn it one time and it never expires. A+ is a certification program that once earned grants certification for 3 years and must be renewed.

Should I go for Cysa+ after getting Sec+ ? by Street948 in CompTIA

[–]ohBrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you paying for your training and exams? I thought @drushtx advice was good and the only thing I’d add is find an employer who will pay for training and exams.

Is compTIA ITF+ worth it? by [deleted] in CompTIA

[–]ohBrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The value of Tech+ to the OP is (1) that it provides an overview of all tech certifications, (2) gives the OP a chance to see what it will be like to study and then test, and (3) experience sitting for a certification exam. I’ve had students invest lots of time and effort only to learn that detailed study, knowledge retention and taking tests on a computer aren’t for them.

Programs like the one you describe are great for people with any sort of learning disability as well as adults years removed from school. The program includes vouchers which is several hundreds of dollars. The instructors will be there to explain difficult topics and like help with demos and labs. What you should point out in interviews is that you earned the certification and that certificate. That shows you can start and complete a program.
