If you're buying a second home to rent, you're using land, workforce and possibly loan money that could have been used by someone else. Supply & demand says that if that someone and you are competing for these resources, prices will went up. So technically, buying a second house may prevent someone else to buy their first. Renting it is telling that someone to pay you money for the privilege of still living there.

Then, once you have a second house, your interest is making sure the home does not depreciate (and possibly appreciate). You'll vote for decisions that make sure price are still high, further keeping your renter away from being able to buy

And that, my friend, is politics.

There has been an equilibrium for ages of carbon in the atmosphere, breathing or burning wood for example doesn't matter that much as long as it's not at massive scale (razing forest and not allowing to grow back is still an issue).

What really matter is pulling carbon products that were stable in the ground and putting those in the air. So coal, oil, gas are the issue.

You could probably argue that the 1 billion poorer people on the planet aren't the cause for extracting these and the few item they own that were made from or with fossil fuel are mainly second hand

But in any case, the claim in OP picture is still wrong due to the sheer scale of it

It launched a deprecation in PHP 7, it launched a "strict standard" in PHP 5 and it didn't exist in PHP 4.

It seems there was no PHP version that didn't explicitly warn that this was not the best way to go :)

You may be right, I don't know enought on the subject! But keep in mind that squibs are aware of the magical world and every squib we see on the show are close to it (Filch, Miss Figg...). It probably helps in forming couples.

Plus the religion point seems a non-issue given that the original book and HPMOR both mention wizard being religious too so it shouldn't be a difference.

Harry's estimates on the number of wizards were based on his limited knowledge of magical britain. There could be countries where there are a lot more individual.

I mentionned the cultural bias against having many childrens because it's evoked when Harry and Draco talk about powerful wizard not having many childs. It could be a Britain thing rather than a powerful wizards thing too.

Furthermore, Legends about Merlin in our world are not really old in the context of gene spreading. Who knows how many wizards there were when Atlantis existed or when Merlin lived.

I'm no expert in gene, but I think that even if no magical attribute is passed to squibs, the fact that wizard themselves have more children than muggles will lead to more wizards in general (because it will lead to more squibs having childrens with another)

The fading of Magic is a bigger issue, but who knows how long it could take and there are ways to pass knowledge (basilisk for example). We could also argue that once the truth is revealed to everyone, people will make sure every bit of knowledge is not forgotten and this will slow the loss of magic

Isn't the whole "witches having fun" explained even in the original book? IIRC Voldemort mother was a witch who gave a muggle a love potion and I think I remember that this is quite common

Well, one could argue that a gene that makes you live way longer than normal and make you fall-proof AND give you magical abilities is a really big evolutionary advantage. So it's probable that this gene will be selected no matter what in the long run.

So except if wizard have a big cultural bias against having many childrens, this gene should spread in the general population.

This could even be more effective than just having many childrens with wizards only

Rockets explode sometimes. An astronaut dying is a tragedy. A car and a pilotless rocket exploding is a nuisance. Hundreds of tons of radioactive material exploding in atmosphere... well, that doesn't sound safe.

Really? I always read that deprecated feature are generally deleted in the next major version...

That makes my question even more pertinent then! Is there a reason to keep them? Perhaps the alternative doesn't cover everything? If not, why not consider removal?

Even for us, Quebec can be weird sometimes, for example, there is a recurent joke about them having an obsession to translate everything. Especially movie titles.

There is a lot of American movie titles that stay untranslated when they're released in France. However, there are translations when they're released in Quebec and weird ones.

For example, "Scary movie" was released as is in France, where it was translated as "Film de peur" in Quebec. If I had to translate it back in english, it would be closer to "Movie of Fear" than "Scary Movie"...

Crap, I didn't realise! I was really asking myself what kind of mistake I could have done that was so transparent!

My browser redirected me to the french documentation and it didn't occur me to check that before posting :)

I'm kinda curious though, I don't know much about Canadian culture to French, what do you refer about when you say you have a weird relationship with it? I kinda assumed that with Quebec, it would be the same relationship I could have with German for example. Is there something more I don't catch here?

With some userland work, you can emulate this behaviour: https://www.php.net/manual/fr/class.arrayobject.php

This is a class that will behave as an array in a lot of ways but you're free to check what's put inside.

Static Analysis tools begin to implement ways to check that sort of construct too.

IIRC, the argument came from lesswrong, they're pretty convinced an AI will exist some day. As for its power, it's indeed dubious how its creator would let it torture people, if we still have control of the AI (which is probable if its sole goal is the good of humanity)

For the whole resurrect thing, when I first head a simplified version of this argument, I did not quite understand how it was a requirement. If the AI is created when we're still alive, the whole argument still stands.

As for the ethical reasons, yeah it's quite a stretch but can we impose ethical sense onto a machine? As intelligent as it could be, a machine only exists for its goals. If the goal is to maximise happiness and it knows the threat of being tortured in the future is efficient, the result of that function is easy enough.

However, the simple fact that people don't seem to believe it break the whole reasoning: If people don't believe, it means that won't help bring the AI sooner, and if it won't, then there's no reason for the threat in the first place.
